Default What do you pay for propane?

Just had to fill the heating tanks again and I paid $2.77 /gallon.

I'm wondering again if it might not be time to change suppliers.....

On that subject do you own your propane tank or do you least it? I least mine because I put it in the ground but I wonder if I should buy it. Since it under least I need to buy from them, but I don't use gas a lot, just for the pool spa.

$2.77 doesn't seem bad to me.

Yeah, I lease it. It's a rip off deal if you ask me. Supposedly they maintain (service, paint, test) it for my $63 a year. But in the 5 years I've lived here they haven't touched it. At this rate it would be cheaper to buy.

What's it cost you for the buried version?

Been like 6 years ago since it was buried, I had that it first. I think around $250 or so. My least is $10 a month, that sucks.

Do the big tanks have an expiration date like the smaller BBQ tanks? I think they are only good for 5 to 7 years. I'm sure it would be longer than that.

I wonder what the liability is in leasing/owning. I would imagine your home owners insurance would have to be adjusted if you flat out owned the tank, no?

A friend of mine whom works for a Natural Gas company stated no don't buy it it needs to be re-certified as it gets old. So yes I assume it does have an expiration date, now owning it or not does the propane company remove the propane to redo it, and then give it back to you?

Well I think you're screwed one way or the other.

I own mine and like the flexibility to change suppliers if a good deal comes along. I bought last year from a company running a special at $1.19 first fill and contracted for 1000 gallons at $1.29. This year they are back up to everyone elses price so I am back to my local guy
