Default A possible reunion for The Cars?

I know, I know....it's not the same without the bassist, the late Ben Orr. What? you didn't know he sang lead vocals on "Drive" and "Just What I Needed"? Anyway, Ric Ocasek is back.

I dig The Cars. Candy-O is my fave. Got that and their S/T debut on Nautilus vinyl, 1/2 Speed Masters. And most of the others on commercial vinyl. Great stuff, Danny. Thanks again. ;)

A friend of mine did the remastering for their first album is believe. Elliot Easton came into my work to check out some guitars, he was a cool guy.

Yuppers, a victim of cancer some time back. He and Ocasek shared lead vocals pretty evenly - they didn't sound all that much different: Orr's voice was a little sweeter, Ocasek's a little weirder, to my ears.

Their first two albums are very good if you ask this ol' survivor of that era...

I thought they sounded very different, in fact I much preferred Orr's voice over Ocasek's. Be cool if they reunite though, big fan of their tunes, especially their older stuff.

Ben Orr was definitely the better singer. But I always though that they went to some lengths to sound similar enough that the lead vocalist wasn't necessarily obvious.

    Maybe not.

First two albums rocked! I saw them back in the 1979 when they were doing all songs from debut album and they threw a few in from CandyO as it had not been released yet. Not much movement on stage but they rocked!
They opened for Van Halen who at the time were sampling a few songs off of Women and Children First as it had not been released yet either!
Let the Goodtimes Roll.... would be great to hear them again!

Don't think I could go see them now. Saw them back in '80 (or so) and they were awesome. That's still lodged in my mind and is replayed whenever I put their CD on. Anything less, quality-wise, and I'd never be the same.

The real question here though: Is Ric Ocasek still with Paulina, or do I again have a shot? :D

Confirmed: The Cars will reunite for studio album and possibly a tour.

The Cars have reunited to record their first album in 23 years and may support it with a tour, Billboard.com has learned.

The new wave band's sessions were first confirmed by veteran engineer Paul Orofino in now-deleted posts on the Pro Sound online message board, and follow the late July posting on Facebook of a photo with the band's four surviving original members together in a Boston recording studio.

Last week, the Cars revealed a 73-second snippet of a new song, "Blue Tip," on their Facebook page, but provided no additional information about the album.

Orofino's posts indicated that the band, which features singer Ric Ocasek, guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson, recorded only new songs for the album at his studio in Millbrook, N.Y. Orofino added that Hawkes played and/or programed all the bass parts, filling the role served during the Cars' original 1976-1988 run by Benjamin Orr, who died of cancer in 2000.

Sources tell Billboard the group is strongly considering touring, but dates have yet to be confirmed.

The Cars rose to fame out of Boston in the late 1970s with a string of classic hits such as "Just What I Needed," "Best Friend's Girl" and "Let's Go." The group's sound was sleek and keyboard-heavy without sacrificing crunchy guitar chords, and its look was unique thanks to the lanky Ocasek, one of the least stereotypical rock stars of the era.

In 1981, the Cars reached a career-best No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Shake It Up," from the album of the same name. After a two-plus-year break, the group scored No. 3 on The Billboard 200 with 1984's "Heartbeat City," which spawned the major hits "You Might Think," "Magic" and the Orr-sung "Drive."

The Cars split in 1988, with members moving on to solo careers and other pursuits. Easton and Hawkes joined forces as the New Cars in 2005 with Todd Rundgren subbing for Ocasek, who was long opposed to a reunion. That project fizzled after a couple years of touring, which produced the 2006 concert album "It's Alive!"

I bumped into Ric in the 80's, he was filming the gay pride parade in NYC, I said "excuse me", he said "no problem dude", which I barely heard since Paula was standing there ......what a Goddess, just ooozed class from every pore of her being...cool couple, they still together?
    Huh? Wot?? Dig it

Where can I get me some??
