    Default Which tweeters

I've looked at a few Monitor 10s and Monitor 7s. On one the tweeter has no external wires visible and the plate is black, one has the wires parallel to the ground and the plate is black. Can anyone help identify which tweeter is which? What does the so called silver dome tweeter look like? It looks as if the 10s and 7s may have the same midrange/bass and tweeters. I'm not as concerned with the "sound" of one vs the other just how to identify each one. I've heard one tweeter is less bright than the other........I'm in the first stage of collectionitis and interchangeability is something I'd like to know. Thanks

Earliest on, both the Monitor 7's and Monitor 10's used Peerless tweeters which have a black faceplate, black dome, and visible wire leads that face either downward or upward at a 45 degree angle on both sides of the dome.

Later, definitely the 10's, and possibly the 7's, used the sl-1000. These had a silver faceplate with the wire leads the same as the peerless.

Later still, both the 10's and the 7's used the sl-2000. These had a black faceplate, silvery transparent dome, and the wire leads parallel to the ground. This is the "silver coil dome" you referred to.

Even later, the 10's used the sl-2500. These had a black faceplate and black dome, with no visible wire leads. These were only used in the Monitor 10 series 2's, and I don't believe there was a Monitor 7 series 2, but I'm not positive.

    Cheers.

Thanks Falconcry! Your information really helped me. If you have any other info on drivers for the 10s I'd be forever grateful!

The drivers used in all of the Monitor, RTA, and SDA vintage Polks look almost identical. They are all 6 1/2's, and they are all labeled MW-65??.

    There were 6500, 6501, 6502, 6503, 6510, and 6511.

I believe the 10's used 6501's, but that may have changed over time.

Here's a link to some vintage Polk wiring schematics:

There's another thread somewhere with more detailed info on the drivers, but I don't remember where it is.
