I own a Pioneer Elite PDF-19 301 mega changer.I had a problem with it as the wheel if you will broke so it doesn't spin.I took it out of my system and I'm going to replace it with a Sony ES player.I'm waiting to see if Sony Releases a Megachanger SACD player......that would be cool.I'm going to share the megachanger between the theater and the house system.
I'm also considering a xa777es Sony Es flagship sacd/cd player.
I spin my cd's today untill we move(in 2 weeks) in my DVD player which is a Pioneer Elite dv47a.

sorry guys.... the poll only allows you to list 10 choices.. i had to pick the ones I thought people in here might be using. I had no idea Pioneer was in such high use on here.
I did figure a good number of people would be using Sony. Sony seems to be the leader in CD players... with their ES ones. and the several other lesser ones.
I'm looking hard for a decent CD player/transport... to that's why i started this poll. I'm not looking at Sony ES, only because I'm looking for a player with coax out.. Sony's only offer optical outs![]()
My price range is $300 and below. I am looking for used players. I prefer a multi disc one.. but will also settle for a single disc one too. If I use a player as a transport only.. is there much difference in the sound quality? I know the sound is determined by the quality of DAC's used..so would using it as a transport make any difference then? Are all lenses made pretty much the same... or are they higher quality lenses?
thanks, Al

I use an RCA RP8078 ($90.00 new), 5-disk carousel with an optical out in my home theater room. Naturally I use the optical out to the Denon 2802, as running analog out from this machine sounds as lifeless as any source I've ever come across.
I run a Jolida JD100 in my stereo setup, and it is the best piece of equipment I have ever owned; dynamic as all hell. Quadrophenia has never sounded so good.
Two Channel Setup:
Speakers: Wharfedale Opus 2-3
Integrated Amp: Yamaha A-S500
CD Player: Jolida JD200
Turntable: Rega P5 - TT-PSU
Cartridge: Clearaudio Aurum Beta Wood
Phono Preamp: Musical Surroundings Phonomena II
3.2 Home Theater Setup:
Fronts: Polk LSi7
Center: Polk LSiM 703
Subs: SVS PB 12 NSD X 2
AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A820
Amp: Emotiva UPA-200
danger boy,
shame..sony Es has awesome internal dac's.No need for digital out.Analog all the way there.#00.00 huh, well look into Rotel my man, there cd players are really nice......and cheap

dorokusai,
I was going to buy the 555 es mega changer myself. But I was under the inpression(some inside source)that Sony will be coming out with a SACD version of that very player.......If it's true I'm going to wait for it.........if not I'm gonna scoop up a 555es......they go for 599.99 new.

Three Sonys:
SCD-C222ES - SACD 5 disc changer
SCD-CE775 - SACD 5 disc changer
CDP-215 Single disc player
WRONG! Check out the Sony SCD-C222ES - Analog, optical and... COAXIAL!I'm not looking at Sony ES, only because I'm looking for a player with coax out.. Sony's only offer optical outs

Again a NEW Sony SCD-C222ES can be had for about $350 (check out Oade Bros.) A little over your budget but it is all that you are looking for ...plus SACD. I highly recommend this player. My price range is $300 and below. I am looking for used players. I prefer a multi disc one.. but will also settle for a single disc one too.

True. I use analog outs on all of my players. The DACs in the Sonys are excellent.Originally posted by mantis

shack,
that is the FIRST SONY i've seen with a coax out. there are lots of Sony players on ebay when i look.. and none of them mention a coax out. I guess if the DAC's in the ES player is good enough.. i wouldn't need a digital out. Can anyone tell me what kind of DAC's the Sony ES line uses?
I'm not looking to SACD. A multi player carousel is more like it.

DB,
My XA777ES has analog, optical and coaxial too. Like Shack, I use the analog outs and this thing has 3 DAC's per channel for 2 channel playback, redbook is great, SACD is awesome. The new XA9000ES has 9 DAC's per channel for 2 channel.
In your price range the C222ES should be on your list, plus you get SACD. Once you hear what SACD is about, you'll want more. I think Sony guards that DAC info better than the US guards the gold in Ft. Knox.

F1, as much as I'm sure SACD is wonderful.. i went the route of DVD audio instead. so i'm already using the 6 analog ins on my receiver. it's full. no mo places for a hook up. so if I bought a player capable of SACD it would just go to waste i'm afraid. so a high quality stereo player is what i'm after.
thanks.

SACD does higher quality stereo too. Not just multichannel. It's way better than CD stereo.

Good Ol Yamaha! I hope to add an Adcom or Pioneer Elite CD Player for my main rig however. We shall see.

Denon DVD-2900. SACD, DVD-A, CD, DVD-V.
Custom built to Denon's specifications - Burr-Brown 24-bit, 192-kHz DSD 1790 Audio DACs.
For music, I use six (6) Signal Cable Analog 2 analog outputs and use the 3803 strictly as an amp.
For movies, I use a Monster digital coax and let the 3803 handle the processing duties.

F1, what *type* of DACs? 9 sounds great if they are of some quality, but I'll pass on single-bit dacs 'stacked'. What's in there?
Cheers,
Russ

db,
I agree with the consensus that Sony internal DAC is very good. My old XA3ES (7 years old) DAC sound much better than the Rotel rsx-1065 DAC (in two channels). The difference is *very* distinct: profound low, mid, and high, no subtlety at all! make me very curious on how to surpass it with a better outboard DAC, if it exist. Btw, do you guys know DIY internal upgrade for Sony's CDP?
Also, on your dilemma of running out 5.1 input on your receiver, I use the Ratshack solution (Shack lined out the option in the past, you can do search on this) and it works great! A $27 investment with two Ratshack's switcher. Try it out...
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
I read somewhere last night.. that those Sony ES players that offer SACD have three DAC's built into them.. two DAC's for SACD and one DAC for regular CD's. wish i could find that article again.. dang it!
