    Default Samsung LCD Problem

    http://forums.cnet.com/7723-13973_10...message3316356

    http://www.crovean.net/samsung-lcd-tv-power-up-problem

So my Sammy (LNT4065F) LCD just started to have this power up issue a couple days ago and seems to be getting worse. It's just over 2 years old and we bought an extended warranty from Best Buy when the set was purchased.

I called them this morning and a repair tech is coming out to the house on Saturday. Glad we bought the extended warranty cuz I can't afford to fork out any $$$ on a new TV right now and especially since this LCD is still fairly new.

Apparently, Samsung has acknowledged the problem with certain models. I'm just curious if anyone else has had similar issues with their Samsung LCDs and if they replace the faulty components with better parts?

    TIA,

    Mike

Wow. I am having the same issues with my 46" (don't know the model number at the moment). I was just going to let it go until it completely died, but now reading those posts I will call Samsung and see if I can get a free fix.

It's been going on with my tv for about a month now, and it gets worse each day.

    Thanks for the post!

It's supposedly an easy fix, but I'm not going to piss around with it since I should be covered under my extended warranty. Samsung's admitted the problem, so I'd definitely bend their ears about getting it fixed. If not, here's a vid that shows you how to diy.

Funny how these companies think. I just called Samsung and told them I was having the problem. I gave them my tv info and they said this tv is not in a "production range" or something like that so they could not offer the free fix.

I told them I have purchased 3 big screen Samsungs over the last 5-6 years and was disappointed, I'll be purchasing a different brand from now on.

They said they could have a service tech call me with a price to fix, however if it is more than $100 I'll tell them to screw. I can get a new 50" lcd for $550 at Walmart right now.

So instead of keeping a customer happy who has purchased several high priced tvs over the years, they will nickel and dime me to get a problem fixed.

    They just lost a customer.

The Samsung LCD power up option is a known issue but for the longest time the company did not take fault. The LCD issue stems from two problems, one is the main board, the other are the caps. I had the main board replaced on my previous 46 and 52 inch models. The 46 and 52 inch were years out of warranty. The newer 55 inch models have an issue called "flashlight" where certain parts on the LCD panel are noticeably brighter. The brighter spots looks like clouds on the panel, in which, I had replaced as well. I stuck with Samsung for the longest time, but some LCD's from the other companies are looking much better now.

Thanks for the heads up on Samsung LCD sets guys. I think I'll be buying a different brand also if this is the way Samsung shows gratitude to their loyal customers.

After searching this problem more I am just that much more pissed at Samsung. It's very clear they have this problem with all or many of their models. Why offer a free fix for some and not others?

I guess I will try to fix myself but I am really no good at this stuff and will need to find help.

Too bad, I always bought Samsung in the past but no more.

BTW, my LCD model is LNT4661FX.

Look at the OP. Basically the tv clicks when I try to turn it on and takes about 5 minutes to come on now. Widely reported on line and looks like a capacitor problem.

One of the guys I work with here is good at this stuff and we will try to fix my tv as soon as I buy the new capacitors.

I'll send results when I can.

That sux, mud. I'm glad I got the extended warranty for mine. Best Buy was helpful when I called this in and I'll have no out of pocket expenses for the fix. I just hope they beef up the replacement parts for it. These new displays are nice, but doesn't seem like they can compete with the longevity of a good, ol' CRT.

I called them this morning and also went to their on line live chat. They would not give me a free service call.

I just bought some capacitors for about $10, will try fixing soon.

In any case, Samsung just lost a repeat customer.

I've not had issues with samsung LCD's, but I have with other products. With samsung, you better hope they can fix it because they refuse to replace any item for just about any reason. I had something "repaired" 7 times before giving up.

    Good luck.

Same model as mine. Did they beef up the caps for the repair, devani?

If they use the same capacitors for the repair it just defeats the purpose of doing it in the first place. I bought this particular LCD based on all the glowing reviews it got. Now, not so sure if I'd buy a Samsung again. I've read that their br players are less than reliable.

From what I understand the current capacitors are 10v. I just bought 35v new ones and will try putting them in.

I think I'll take pictures and post my step by step...only if it works

The youtube vid makes it look fairly easy. My eyes are just too shot to do any kind of soldering work tho. Having both your retinas re-soldered will do that to ya.

That's pretty disappointing. I would raise some hell if I were you. If its a known problem and they are offering a free one time fix, what is the point of them denying you that. I have a 46" Samsung LCD and if they pull the same crap with me, I wouldn't buy from them either.

I agree. That is pretty crappy business ethics and poor customer support on Samsung's part since this is a known issue with their TVs.

Try making another call and ask for a supe and argue the point, mud. The problem is pretty well documented all over the internet. If they still decline, advise them you'll be filing complaints with the BBB and Consumer Protection. That might make 'em bend a little. I wouldn't think any company would like to be placed on the sh*t list. Be better for them to just go ahead and eat the repair. Worth a try anyway. Good luck!

Maybe I'll try calling again, the entire thing is just exhausting and frustrating. It's really a shame because I like Samsung, as mentioned I have purchased two 46" and one 55" LCDs from them over the last 5 years or so.

I guess technically they are within their rights as the warranty is well past the standard 12 months. However the thing that gets me is why would they offer the free repair fro some models but not others??

If worse comes to worse I'll replace it with another brand and then file some complaints to the BBB and such.

Not for nothing,, I got plenty of other things keeping me busy at home/work than to have to deal with this. But if I replace the parts and it works I sure will feel good and also learn a lot in the process. My co-worker here said he used to do this sort of stuff all the time. And I have never done any soldering before so it will be cool to learn.

I'll try to keep the glass half full for now...

Well, in this case it will backfire, as I sure won't buy new Samsung anyway. I'll be trying the capacitor fix tomorrow on my lunch break.
    Wish me luck!

    +1

I bought a Sammy little under a year ago. Seeing these comments make me want to barf.

That sucks, guys. Hopefully Samsung will begin to stand behind their product a little bit more thoroughly in the customer service department, especially since they've taken accountability for the problem.

Yep, they can't make 'em like they used to. Seems to happen to everything from refrigerators to tvs. I still don't think anyone has a LED tv that can surpass a CRT tv's black level.

I have a 2 year old Sony XBR6 52" LCD that, when turned on after coming home from a week long out of town trip, would alternate 2 bulbs in the top center of the screen that would fade in and out for about 30 minutes before it would stay totally lit.

I also purchased the Best Buy black tie extended warranty and they came out and said that they couldn't replace the bulbs because they were built directly onto the panel so they would have to order a refurbished panel.

They couldn't get one, so ended up giving me just under $2k for the set towards something else so i took the opportunity to upgrade to a 60" LED LCD of Sony's.

The parts on these TV's aren't designed to be replaceable anymore, and they will definitely never see the longevity of CRT sets.........
