Question Have you mounted an iPad to a Wall?

    Hey Polkies,

I have a client that wants me to find a solution to mount his ipad to his kitchen wall.

He wants the ability to be able to remove it from the wall easily, to have it charge the iPad and be able to rotate it 90 degress.

I found a bunch but none really do the rotating.

This one is really nice but it's really meant to be permanent

    Any Ideas greatly appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Sal

that "pad tab" doesn't seem like a great option to me. You have to affix that mounting bracket onto the back of the iPad and carry it around that way. Additionally, it does nothing to address the client's issue of charging it. If this is a high-end client, I wouldn't recommend that solution considering it is not a finished look and the cord will be dangling down. not to mention what the tab would look like on the wall when the iPad isnt there. Is custom fabricating something out of the question? I can think of several ways to achieve this.

Then again, if it needs to be cheap, then go for it. Personally, i wouldnt hang a picture frame on that thing let alone a $600 machine covered in glass that I'm going to be pawing at.

    Newrival,

Appreciate your concern. The PadTab is as thin as a nickel so it doesn't stick out like other options. PadTab is very popular right now in the Cedia channel. Yes, we don't charge the iPad but our thought is that your not going to leave it hanging for long periods of time. It's meant portable as you go around your home or office. Additionally, the walltab is clear so when the iPad isn't hanging from it you do not notice it like others. This was a concern we had to overcome.

I would hope that you would do your due diligence before making such as statement about not trusting it. The adhesive we use is the same adhesive that is used to attach truck beds to the frame. If you research it our adhesive is very strong and can even be used outdoors in extreme conditions. We wanted to create a product that we could use personally so being confident in the product in order to sell it had to happen. We have shipped hundreds of units since our launch and haven't had a single complaint.

I look forward to answering any questions you or others in this forum may have as its drawn a lot of traffic our way today.

    Wow. Don't see that everyday.

I should mention that I found the PadTab via Gizmodo, and have not used it myself.

We are a smaller company so its important for us to be engaged with potential customers. We are very close to closing a few distribution deals so that we are on the shelf in certain retail outlets. In the meantime we ship via our website and Amazon. We realize that w/o holding the product in your hands it can be difficult to judge the reliability on a website so we try and answer questions as they arise.

We definitely appreciate you posting here and interjecting. I could foresee you selling a lot of these. You'll have to forgive my hyperbolic last portion of my comment. I hastily commented based on the needs and wants of my clients rather than asking for the particulars of his.

While your product is something I could imagine in all of my relatives homes, it's just not something I could give my clients nor put in mine. There are those who require close attention to detail in fit, finish, and form factor who give little consideration to cost. That is who I am used to designing for. And so, at times, I forget that that is probably not even 1% of the population.

As far as industrial design goes, this seems like you will hit the meaty 65% of the bell curve of consumers. I'm sure it will be successful, and reliable, and all these things that you've marketed it to be. In a vacuum the product seems sound. I have my concerns given its dimensioning, tab length, etc. but $30 cant exactly buy you a built-in enclosure. Like I said, you've got a product that appeals to largest consumer demographic of tablet users. But high design it is not.

Coming from working in the CEDIA channel myself, I agree our target is not Mr. Rich Guy. That is really about 1% of the market and typically they will over pay for overkill. That being said, we've been pleasantly surprised by the interest coming from the same channel and we have some dealers who in fact did use our solution in some high end installs.

I think its a fine balance of what you want it to do really. Using a high end enclosure really just makes it a "touch panel". Our target is those that while in the kitchen want to watch Hulu or pull up a quick recipe. I personally use mine in the bathroom to watch CNBC while I'm getting ready. I would also agree we are not "high end" as we are going after simple versus most of the "over thought" solutions.

Sure does! That being said, you can't use the PadTab while its in the case since you have the flap of that case on it. When I'm home I remove it from the case, when I take it with me to work or elsewhere I slip it into the case. We demo this in one of the videos on our site.

FYI, this is the article that CEPro wrote up http://www.cepro.com/article/worlds_...think_of_that/

    Cool, thanks.

Will the tab adhere to the case? Have you tried that?

That particular case? No because of the material.

There are hardshell cases that it does adhere to though, 2 so far that we've tested are on our site. Both are carried in the Apple Stores.
