    Exclamation Dynavector 10X5

Well my polk brethren, times are tough, but Janey gave me the GO on this cartridge. I've been wanting to try it on my SL-1210 M5G for months now. Got it with free mounting to a Sumiko HS12 headshell from the needledoctor. 480.00 total, ships tomorrow.

Spoke with Patrick there and he's running one of these on a Technics 1210 also. He assured me that the 10X5, Sumiko and Technics match well together. Should be here by the middle of next week. Looking forward to comparing the 10X5 to the DL160.

I may end up eating these words at some point, but right now, I think this will probably be my last cartridge upgrade given the turntable I'm using. I love my Technics/DL160 combo and it's performance already, so I think this is as deep as I'll go with my turntable investment. I'm really looking forward getting this cart & headshell based on all I've read about it. Something about that fire engine red cartridge body gives me a boner too.

I had the 10x5 on my first VPI, very nice cartridge.

Mine had the plastic outer body removed....I've heard that to be one of the more popular tweaks to that cart...

Thanks, Big T. That's reassuring. Are you saying the red body of the cartridge can be removed? I really like the looks of it.

I am glad to see you are getting another headshell. It literally takes less than a minute to swap cartridges that way. I was having a vinyl day today. I had a visitor stop in and commented how good the CD sounded. Then I showed her the Eric Clapton live LP This was after a morning of tweaking.

There are times, depending what I have on the table, that vinyl sounds as good as any well mastered CD I own, Ben. A lot sound better than their digital counterparts to my ears. That's with the DL160, so I'm eager to hear what this Dynavector can do. I talked with Joe and he told me it's a very detailed cartridge, but I need to dial it in properly and allow for break in. Once I've spent some time with it, I'll post my thoughts.

Yes, the red body can be removed, I don't know how much difference it makes though (nor do I know how much of a PITA it is to do it). Just to get you thinking though....VPI and Dynavector go together like peanut butter and jelly.

I know the Scoutmaster is a very nice table. Maybe later on down the road. I'm eager to hear how the Dynavector/Technics combo works out. The guy I placed the order with yesterday told me they play very well together and you and Joe have given it a thumbs up. I'm confident it'll be a nice upgrade. Thanks, Troy.

I hear ya, Troy. Unless I win the lottery though, this will probably be as deep as I go. I'm pleased with the gig I got going on already. It may not be high end by any standard, but it works for me.

I like to believe I did pretty well with what I got invested in my entire system. CP has definitely helped me get the most out of everything I have.... And more.

Yeah, I remember packing that beast too. Lord have mercy! Never again, Larry. PITA packing turntables. lol!

<200.00, the AT-PL120 is a decent table. I enjoyed spinning my records on it for a year. Only thing that really bugged me about that TT were the cheesy interconnects.

Great......maybe I should put you on my ignore list...cuz I got basically the same TT setup (SL1200mkII and DL160)....

That is a great cartridge Mike. Dynavector's are very dynamic and lively. Not everybody likes them, but I have been working my way up their line.

On of the things I think is hard to get used to is the higher output of an MC cartridge like the 10 x 5. I loved it but again I say to you give that bad boy at least 100 hours of breakin. When I first got mine I hated it because it was so lively and sounded etchy but after 100 hours it toned down and started to sound silky.

Troy I never heard of taking the body off the 10 X 5 as a tweak. Very interesting.

Yep. I expect that it's going to need some break-in time, Joe. IIRC, it takes the DL160 30-50 hours for break-in. I remember staying up most of the first night and spinning records the day I got it. Can't wait to hear how this Dynavector compares and I've been wanting another cartridge for backup.

I may, later on down the road invest in an AT-440MLa. I almost pulled the trigger on one before I heard about the Denon. It's a MM cartridge, but I've read a lot of positive reviews on it. They come up on sale every so often and if you can snag one in the 100.00 ballpark, they're supposed to be a great bargain. Now I need backup for my backup.

    Default Some eye candy

Just took a few shots of the new Dyna. Been spinning constantly since I dialed it in. Got aways to go, but she sounds much better today than she did yesterday.

Very pretty Mike! The experience I had with mine was 100 hrs before it settled in. Then you get a very dynamic, detailed, deep punchy bass presentation. IIRC the loading was an exact 1K ohm (although 800 ohms sounded good too, you'll have to decide) and setting the proper SRA was at 2.4 grams YMMV with the S shaped tonearm.

Happy Listening & a very safe & blessed Christmas.
