'Breathing' room needed for AVR?

Waiting on my new AVR to come in and did some measurements to see where the best place would be to put It. I bought the Pioneer Elite SC-37 - dimensions are roughly 18.5 x 16 x 7.5. The bottom of my entertainment system is only around 8 inches in height and the shelf above it would not allow enough depth. I know the ice amps are suppose to run cooler but with that little space above the avr would it overheat or run warmer than it should? I have another shelf behind the tv that has ps3 games and bluray movies on it and has a large top platform that I could sit it on. I have always just liked to see my avr whenever I want and this would not be the case if I did it that way.

Would a fan be an option if I left it on the bottom of the entertainment center? If so any suggestions?

I have the SC-07 which is exact same size. Put it somewhere it can breathe regardless of the ICEamps. The receiver will run cool to touch for the most part. Not space above mine either since it is in a rack and I have zero issues. I probably around an 1.5" to 2" space in the rack where it sits. Whatever you decide don't put anything on top it, it looks too nice for that. Congrats on a great receiver.

This is my Elite and as you can see it doesn't have much room, but it doesn't get hot so it's fine

Thanks for the help. I'm going to try to put it where my current receiver is. If that doesn't work or just seems to crowded I'll move it to the shelf behind the tv.
And Sherardp - it would be going on the top shelf all by itself with the blurays and games going on the lower shelves :)
I really hope it works out on the entertainment center cause it will be a huge hassle to hook all the cables and hdmi lines a couple feet away from where they are now :(

My SC-25 has less than a half an inch clearance on the top, so I have desktop fan pointed at it from the side and it stays cool. So far, I haven't had any issues with it. The fan is about 2 feet away because it also moves air over my ps3. I just wish the SC-25 had a "switched" av outlet on the back of it. I hate having to reach my arm around my left speaker to turn the fan on. I might move my SR6001 to the basement since it has the "switched" outlet on the back. I'm only moving it because I'm lazy.

Blockatvalpo- about how big is the fan you are using?

Any suggestions on a fan? I've thought about trying to find one that I could clip on the back of the stand I'm using and point it at the back of the avr and ps3. Would there be any problems with this or should I try to position it more towards the front or side??

It's kinda loud during movies, so I'm looking for a new one. I want to try the Lasko 4910 out for $20 on amazon.com. I thought about a usb fan, but adding a usb hub adds more cables. The blizzard moves a lot of air and my sc-25 is almost cold when I touch it.

I have two small fans behide my rack one pushes air over the top of my SC-07 and the other fan over my amp..

Five Below has a usb laptop cooling pad for for $5, so I might grab it and hook it up to a powered usb hub. It looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/Powered-Univer...2260995&sr=8-8

I moved my Marantz downstairs last night and I now have about a half inch between it and the glass shelf. If I put this upside down, it should blow cold air into the marantz. This should be a lot quieter too.

I have done both the usb fan route (for a dvr) and now I have a ratshack fan http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...rName=Category hocked up to a dimmer switch and plugged into the switched outlet on the avr. That way you can adjust the speed to keep it pretty quiet (but its not silent cause its a fan!) and have it automatically come on when you turn on your avr.

i have sc09tx with about 2 1/2 inches above it nofan solid front door no cabinet back and have no problems with heat issues.i would look to have at minimum 2 inches of space above.a good looking amp that you can see but ends it's life prematurely does not make a good paper weght.

A fan that pulls heat out would be advisable if it gets too hot.

Getting ready to go and pick it up - required me to sign and Worked out of town. So all geared up last night to work on it and as you can imagine a major let down when they wouldn't let someone else pick it up for me. I walked around walmart last night looking for a desk fan or a USB fan and they said they had shipped all their fans back and just had large ones??? Anyways going to run by BB today and get one of there USB ones.

But anyways- on to more important things. There isn't to many bells and whistles with my current AVR and had no trouble flying through the setup and playing around with it over the past couple months. I consider myself a pretty tech savvy person but I think setting this thing up and getting everything out of it I can I going to be a whole different ballgame. Any input on different settings, things you all wish you had done or hadn't done, x-over settings...etc would be greatly appreciated!
Also I was looking to add in a set of secon speakers for a second zone and had a couple questions. Right now I would have 2 options. I have 2 older models of a couple different speakers my dad had given me 7 years ago when I went off to college (he had had them for prb 10-15 years maybe?) Anyways the 2 options would be
1. Quart One bookshelfs - Q One N• W - 001556. I tried to find these using the product number but had no luck. 4 Ohm, Rated power handling- 60W, music power handing- 80W, frequency response - 49-32000 Hz.
2. Paradigm bookshelf. No product number. I think it's about a 6.5 inch main speaker with a tweater. Front panel doesn't come off and the back has the red/black push down tabs. Above that is the air port and when you look in it looks like a metal disk is at the end. The front has Paradigm in silver with 2 lines through the letters and underline by 2 red lines as well. I would take a picture but only phone right now and cant upload photos off of it for some reason.
Anyways would either of those work? My guess is they are both 4 ohms and my currents speakers are 8 ohms -see sign below. Not sure if the 37 can be run at 4 and if it can, can you set you main listening area at one setting and zone 2 at another?

And one final question...what should be my first bluray I put in to help me see my purchase was all worth it right from the start? Haha. I have around 15 or so 7.1 and just picked up Phantasia last night. No kids and I have never seen it and prb won't- but it is 7.1 and from what I read has great music and colors. Going to try and pick up how to train your dragon as I have heard that is a very good audio quality as well.

running a fan for ventilation that pulls air thru receiver can cause more dust build up inside avr and require removal of casing to clean dust out with can of compreessed air.using fan that pulls air over the top of avr still removes heat but does not cause dust build up inside avr.
