    Default SDA CRS+ Impressions

So.... I just got my pair of CRS+ today... I also have a pair of modded 1C's and within the next couple of days a pair of SRS 2's...

OK... The CRS+ soundstage is as big as my house!!!! OMG! They can't touch the 1C's as far as low end response, and I think the 1C's are smoother, but that is most likely due to their full upgrade... I am even more excited for my SRS 2's now!!! The 1C's will be moved to the basement for 2 channel amidst the home theater :D The SRS 2's will be where the 1C's are now, and I think the CRS+'s will go to the bedroom...

I will say the bass response from the CRS+'s was surprising... I did not expect what they did...

Upgrade them and seal them properly and they'll sound even better. You're becoming an sda hoarder.

The CRS+'s are wider than the 1C's, I think that's why their soundstage sounds wider.

That has nothing to do with it.

    I beg to differ.

If you measure the distance between the SDA driver and the Stereo driver in my speakers you'll see that they are closer to the same distance in the crs+'s. The 1C's are closer together.

That distance is there to mimic the distance between your ears. The 1C's probablly sound better for people with skinny heads or less distance between their ears

2B'S and 1C's have the mid woofers close together, and IIRC all the other SDA's are further apart with the tweeters in between the mid woofers.

I think the SRS nomenclature may have something to go along with the mid woofers being further apart also, but I could be wrong.

    YMMV

That's exactly the reason why the CRS's are named as they are. The "r" is for reference, it matches the sound and sda effect of the SRS's. The 2B's and 1C's are not reference.

What does reference mean.........something like Emo's world class

Rhetorical so no need to answer.

    With or without a hat?

Relative horizontal separation between the stereo and dimensional drivers will have an influence on the SDA effect but baffle width in and of itself will not make the soundstage sound wider.

I agree, and I think this is what Lasareath was aluding to in his first post.

One of the best SDA loudspeakers on the used market. Everyone strokes egos for the big models, for some unknown reason...and there are so many cooler versions to hop on.

Are you guys saying I have a fat head?!

Anyways... I have been sitting and listening to these CRS+ today and gotta tell you, I really like them. They are a VERY capable speaker, and I think I am going to upgrade and TL them, which should make them even better.

How do I go about sealing these things properly? The rear plugs have been removed and sealed with sealant... Anything else I need to do... The stupid search function is one step above useless!

    Don

Contact Larry and get some rings!!!

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/member.php?u=94850

Also buy the crossover parts before the 22nd and save $50 from soniccraft

    This is what you need:

Sonicap capacitor 5% or better tolerance
    (2) 5.8uF
    (2) 12uF
    (2) 20uF
    (2) 30uF
    (2) 10uF

(combine the 30 & 10 to equal the needed 40uF as the largest cap from Sonicap is 30uF)

    Mills Wire-wound 12 watt resistor 5% tolerance
    (2) 2.7ohm MRA-12
    (2) 0.5uf ohm Mills 12 watt MRA-12 used to replace the polyswitches

I thought he stopped making them??? If I can snatch up a set, I would be all over them. My 1C's have them, and the SRS 2's I will be getting are coming with them, I just need to install them...

Hey Don, you will have (8) 6.5" driver rings along with (4) tweeter rings and all associated hardware to use as you may;) I also just remembered to add the templates in there to help out!

Buddy, keep in mind- Once you go SRS you never go back...ha ha (but really not joking)
