    Default Matching Subwoofer

    Hi,

I am pretty noob at home theatre ^ ^ but over the past couple of weeks I have been purchasing new equipment to replace a dated walmart brand 5.1 system.

    Speakers:
2x: Polk Audio Monitor60 Series II Floorstanding LoudspeakeR
1x: Polk Audio CS1 Series II Center Channel Speaker
2x: Polk Audio Monitor30 Series II Two-Way Bookshelf Loudspeaker

    AVR: Denon avr-591

As you can see I haven't purchased a subwoofer yet, for 2 reasons...
The availability to purchase Polk subs in Canada sucks...There are very few models available here, in our online stores...
From what I have seen they only carry models above $350.
The only sub, that was below that I could find was...
Polk Audio AM1055-A 10" Subwoofer. However after reading some reviews I decided to post here to see your thoughts...

So I do have a question and do I need to buy a polk sub or can I get away with a different brand? I know speaker-matching is important, but I was not sure about the sub.

The online retailers for Polk that I checked were:
    crutchfield.ca
    futureshop.ca
    newegg.ca
    thebrick.ca
    I did check ebay...but I distrust it...

Sadly, Polk doesn't ship directly to Canada :(

The search for a local store returns all futureshop outlets in 200KM as well as a couple of thebricks lol...

The one Polk that I am looking for was the PSW110, but alas I haven't found any to be available in Canada :(

I would appreciate any feedback anyone can give!!

    Cheers,
    Happy Holidays

Default SVS Ultra-13 owners- 20hz,15hz,10hz or sealed?

    Hi guys,

Which mode do you use? It seems like most people use the 20hz or 15hz
the most. Those with Duals sometimes use the sealed mode.

Has anyone used the 10hz mode???

Subwoofer matching is not as important and Polk doesn't necessarily have the market cornered on subwoofer production. There are many reputable companies in Canada who sell subwoofers, most notably are Paradigm and PSB who are based in Canada. They mostly make speakers but they also make subwoofers and you can possibly stop by one of their showrooms to check those speakers and subs out.

To further help you, please reply with your room dimensions so we all have an idea with what space you're working with. With that being said, I must mention that Emotiva is blowing out their smaller subs at low low prices so if you're interested in a small subwoofer for music or HT, you can look there but if you're looking for UMPH then the search continues!

visions sells DSW pro. found DSW 500 pro for half price selling for 400 bucks. I swindled the sales men and got 2 for 700 bucks. a pretty good deal for here in canada. velodyne makes some really nice subs, Paradigm even better.

its a pretty small, 16x16 space. luckily its square makes things super easy to setup :D.

Its also an apartment building so I think my neighbours will complain if I get a rather large sub xD.

sounds like I got some shopping to do on boxing day :D
