well i think if he did it was a long time ago and most likely will not happen again.
New caps and resistors are for the most part all you need to make them sing better than new.
Others will chime in and get you headed in the right direction

It is just a stock replacement XO with the same old cheap components. I would upgrade.
Merry Christmas

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks
Ben

Is it worth it to upgrade the peerless xovers on the 12's or just do the 12c xover for the 198's?
They do not perform these upgrades @ Polk anymore. It was probably done, based on the age, simply because it could be and at that point the company was still small....getting much larger. I'm not even sure they were in the new HQ building during the first RTA12. Kenneth knows more about this than I do.
Brgman - No, keep them Peerless. I would not suggest any transition from Peerless to RD-0, especially for such a cool loudspeaker as the RTA12. Unless something is failing in the xover, keep it as is.
No upgrade on the peerless at all?
Doro, that's cool. Not messin with what aint broke. Thanks for the advice.
Kim Jasper, Ken's more Magnum PI looking replacement and Polk nerd type at HQ, fixes I-Sonics because he likes to do stuff like that on the side. He also makes all the SDA blade-blade interconnects by hand...or used to at least. He does that because he LIKES to do that....do you get that? Your I-Sonic may have been hand fixed by a Polk icon. You'd be surprised at what Polk does in-house and especially the Customer Service crew to take care of customers. Stuff they could easily outsource or pass onto someone else.
Most people just call and bitch but this company from Kim, Len and Hedy on this coast to Angel, Freeman and a host of others that expedite the West Coast stuff take care of business unappreciated.....you have no idea. I only know this because I'm part of it in a small way but every company with a solid CS group has that core. Don't forget that folks, especially you Polkies.

I'm in sales and customer service is priority one. That's how i make my livin and i try to treat those that do the same with the most respect i can.
Besides, you get more flies with honey. Being a jerk never pays off.
A couple thoughts on this unique, vintage Polk:
1. I would not be surprised if the original x-over(s) was/ were damaged... they're kinda exposed; and
2. Think listen first, not mod... the peerless is a great old tweeter.
More later,
