    Default One More 2BTL Mod Question

    Recapped my crossovers and the speakers still function - one hurdle down. Many thanks to F1nut for the excellent topic explaining the details.

    Now, I purchased a pair of RDO-198s off of eBay to replace the SL2000s, and have run into a bit of a snafu. I guess I actually have a couple of questions:

    Any way to verify these are actually RDO-198s? They have no identifying markings of any kind, and they look just like this picture of the RDO-194s I found, although it comes captioned that the two are very similar looking.

    The SL2000s are connected with two identical sort of spade adapters to the end of the wires. The new tweeters have one larger than the other. I take this as a possible sign that these are indeed RDO-198s, as the RDO-194s are supposedly "hot swappable", but I figured I should make sure before I go soldering wires to them.

    One last question: one post is red and the other uncolored; am I correct in assuming the red is hot and the uncolored ground? Does it make any difference if they are connected backwards, as long as the two tweeters are connected in the same manner?

    I appreciate the help.

    Yes the red one is hot. Did you add the 5.8uf cap to make your XO compatable with the RDO-198 tweeter?

    Backwards=out of phase=bad.

    If you solder the leads, be careful, it's easy to destroy a tweeter with too much heat.

    The RDO-198s have two different size spades and the RDO-194s have the same size spades

    The red is the hot.

    Not sure about the connecting backwards.

    edit: dang it to slow

    Thanks a lot, guys.

    I did add the extra cap. They are bright as hell at the moment, as you said they would be with the SL2000s still in them.

    I realize wiring the tweeters backwards puts them out of phase with the woofers, but would it make any difference as long as they were in phase with each other? Since I know which is hot, I will obviously wire them correctly; I'm just curious now.

    Is there a typical way to attach the mismatched lead without soldering it? I am a little nervous about soldering to tweeter, so I would be happy to have an alternative.

    Cut the ends off the wires and get the right sized spades.
