Default SDA array weirdness - right channel not working

    Ok so heres the deal.

    SDA SRS circa 1986 speakers

My right channel has been giving me nothing but problems.

1st it was the polyswitch cutting out the tweeters waaaaay to soon.
So in the garbage the polyswitches went.
Polyswitches must have been absolute junk cause man does it sound good now. Even had to turn the treble down a notch.

Now a few days later for some reason the right channel array DOES NOT work. I have been inside the cabinets checking connections and some are questionable but nothing that would cause total elimination of the SDA effect on the right channel.

My question is: if the left channel array is working that means the connections in the right channel speaker are good, right?

With this thinking, I should be investigating the SDA cable connections on the left channel speaker?

Just a side note: I have been reading threads about guys removing the SDA cable. Why in the world would anyone do that. There is so much missing when the array isnt working. So much so I dont even want to listen to my stereo until I get this problem fixed.

hmmm, I'm thinking that maybe you accidently did something to the crossover when removing the poly? Have you checked the crossovers for bad/loose connections? Wiring?
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

I would guess there is a poor connection at either the IC plug, or as George suggested, on the crossover board at the outputs for the dimensional drivers.

Check your cable for continuity, might only be working "one" direction.

    Hello,
If it were me I believe I would remove the SDA 6.5" drivers from the cabinet and at a very low power try playing them directly powered by your receiver/amplifier. This would tell you if the drivers are working. This is far more likely a cause than a crossover problem.

This problem didnt happen until almost 2 weeks after getting rid of the polyswitches.

All drivers do work. I verified that by temporalily hooking the SDA array drivers up to the source as suggested by Ken.

Is it really possible for the interconnect cable to work 'one' way?

BINGO. The left channel speaker was the problem. About 1/2" away from the solder connection on the interconnect cable plug inside the speaker cabinet the wire had a hairline fracture in it. Don't ask me how that happened. But there is proof positive someone has been inside of these cabinets before. The glue that holds the speaker terminal connections (from amplifier) secure inside the cabinet has been completely removed. Also evident, The polyswitch has been replaced on the left channel. I didnt notice it before when I removed the polyswitch but after looking at things much closer diagnosing my problem, it is clear that their had been some 'work' done inside before.

Did you replace the ployswicthes or did you add a jumper?

Good deal, you found the problem!

What I was refering to with my "one" way comment was on blade/blade cables, both blades carry a signal. One side may have had a poor connection, therefore only one cabinet would see a SDA signal.
