    Default Looking for an amp for my RTI-12's

    I have a pair of RTi-12's that I purchased over a year ago. I am driving them with a Yamaha RX-V 765 (100W per channel), running 2 outputs to each speaker in bi-amped mode. I am not satisfied with the sound quality and am looking to purchase a Rotel amp to drive them. My local Modia store has the RB 1572 (class-D) and the RB 1582 (class-A&B) amp.

    Looking for advice as to which amp is better for the RTi-12's. Suggestions?

    Either one will work. Comes down to sound preference. The reason why you don't like the sound is you've been underpowering them, and bi-amping from a receiver is a waste on top of it. If it were me, I would go for the 1582, but thats just me. Enjoy and let us know what you get and how it sounds.

    The best amp is the one you like of the two that you demo at home. Your local store should let you a/b them in your listening environment for a few days or so.

    I agree with TonyB, biamping from a receiver is a complete waste. In addition to auditioning in your own home, I'd first tell you to read up on room placement and positioning techniques.

    I can tell you for a fact,the 12's are POWER HUNGRY...Polk recommends up to 500 wpc...good luck,I hope you didn't eff' things up by driving them with a receiver.

    I'm not familiar with that AVR, but make sure that it has pre-outs to connect the amp to.

    Bi-amping with an AVR is a complete waste of time, and contains absolutely no benefits.

    I've heard the Rotel 1582 before, and I was quite impressed by it. Very balanced sound overall.

    I haven't heard the 1572, but I'd love to get my ears on one sometime.

This isn't like the issues that people have when trying to drive LSi's with an AVR

    Curt,you can see where I tried to retrack that comment of mine,I tried to edit...I have a pair of 12's,they may be listed as 8 ohm nominal,but I can tell you for a fact that they are a hard nut to crack...much tougher load than the 2.3TL's or SRS 2's I've had in the past.

    I wonder how many tweeters Polk has replaced over the years because of clipping caused by an under powered AVR.

    Exactly the problem with under powering a speaker.

    I have blown a couple tweeters in my day using a receiver to power them.

    Thx Ben. The room is 17x15 feet. I'm primarily interested in music (so 2-ch Stereo). I like a warm base even at low volumes. Budget is < $2k for now at least - it's the economy. Thx again Ben. I am reluctunt to buy from the after market - just weary - nothing against it!

    To be honest - I did. But that's whay I'm looking to get a real amp to drive these hungry ones. Just need to get the right one under $2K - I like warm Strong Bass at low volumes.

    I'm a big fan of Odyssey, though they may be a little higher than your budget. Great amps, they're built in Indiana, and they come with a 20 year warranty.

    I have a Stratos with the cap upgrade powering two Def Tech BP 30's - very clean.

    Dude forget about Bi-Amping,you will wasting time and $$$..just get the Parasound Halo A21 and u will see Speakers start singing right the way.....
