Default HDMI / composite conn. Q

I've got an Onkyo TX-NR708 reciever. Now I'm using my X-box to play my movies. My TV has the yellow composite video connection and the s video conn. only. As of now I'm using the composite video cable. I was wondering if I could run the HDMI cable to the reciever and then from the reciever use either the s-video or composite to the TV. If not would using a DVD player with a s-video conn be better than the X-box for movies be better since the x box dosen't provide the s video conn

Yes it will work. However you will not have 1080p. be prepared for more like 480p or most likely 480i resolutions.
BTW you might have gotten more input if you had placed this thread in the video games section of this forum.

Your TV must be pretty old to only have composite connections. Might be time to go see what your missing in the way of HD.

Just bought a 55" LED 240hz for $1674. That includes a 4 year replacement warranty.

    You need a new TV!

A new TV is definately on the wish list!! Just tring to make the best of what I have untill I get one. My thinking was by running an HDMI from the x box to the reciever would at least improve the SQ of the movies. Just wasn't sure if the video signal would go through the composite cable going out from the reciever to the TV. The tv does have an s video jack would using a dvd with the s video be better?

You might want to try it both ways, as I found going from a S-Video source to receiver to change it into HDMI was worst then S-Video to tv directly.

My TV only has composite connections too!!!!

I'll NEVER upgrade to HD!! I think standard definition pictures look vastly better than high definition pictures anyway!!!

HDMI sucks! Composite A/V is where it's at!!!

Don't give in!! Keep your old school TV and never go HD!! It's a waste of time!!
