Default Kicking Computer Reduce Fan Noise?

One day my fan was acting up so I kicked my computer about 4 times. The fan went from a 30-40db to 10db. I am very impressed and I suggest everyone to kick their computer if their fan is loud:D

Someone should kick you, maybe it will reduce the rate you post at by 75%?

    I say it's worth a shot, I wish I could post a poll but it's not my Thread ;)

    All in jest :D

Please, Some nerd explain to me how dB is a logarithimic scale and 40 dB to 10 dB is more than a 75% reduction.. I must have forgotten.

The motors that spin the fans develop problems and they sound hard. Also they get clogged with dust. Try blowing it out. You may also need to replace the fans themselves. they aren't expensive and it's not hard to do.

The power supply fan is brand new, and is clean as whatever is really clean. I dont know why it was making the noise, I just know when I kicked the computer is the sound weakened considerably....

if you remove the offending fan from its heatsink, you can peel the label off of the back of the fan and drop 1 or 2 drops of 3-in-1 oil into it. There may be a rubber plug over the fan spindle, but that's usually only on larger, higher end fans.

One note, though.... if you keep on oiling it like that, it will eventually need to be replaced. Those bearings only last so long...

If it's something important, you may just be better off replacing it, rather than having it die when you're not paying attention, and frying something...

Yeah no kidding, just replace the stupid things, you can get them at NewEgg.com for under $5 a pop.

Somehow I have a feeling, that if the noise level dropped upon kicking the computer, the amount of airflow couldn't have stayed the same either.

And _what_ processor are you running? I've never known any of my procs to run "cold as an ice cube" at ANY time... Unless it's something mobile, it's probably at least warm... if not, maybe you knocked the heatsink off of the processor :-P

I run a redneck foot powered Processor. It has a built in peddle on the side that you must keep running or the processor melts.....
