I need a pair of 6x9's

Don't want to make this story to long but I was wondering what 6x9's are good.

I was looking at Polk's EX and GXR 6x9's. Any negatives with these two series?

How about Infinity's Kappa's, Kenwoods Excelon, or Alpines S and R series?

What would you fellas recommend.

Looking at installing them with a pair of these due to lack of space. Is this the wrong way to go?

i've got no gripes with 6x9 boxes... i use 'em with no problems for my rears (mounted on the top rear inset of my sub boxes).

no MB Quart -- I cooked a set of those and they didn't sound too nice anyway.

anywho -- u're going off deck power, 25-ish watts rms...

If i honestly had to pick one right now, and I had a small amp (40 or 50 x 2), on paper, I'd take the new db set. frequency response is improved on the low end, and while that doesn't mean i want to run a 6x9 down to 40 hertz, its still nice to have it be able to have some "breathing room" instead of driving a speaker to its mechanical limits of freq resp.

however, if u're gonna keep the head unit power... the pioneer's ought do fine for ya, and they have a very natural sound. I've been saying for a while that i dont think they make the best speakers on earth, but for use off deck power, pioneer tends to have a great sound... somehow this doesn't hold up when u put those same speakers on an amp though... sound like junk-age.

the alpine type R are not gonna work for your... they're sensitivity rating is down at 88 db, which will mean that deck power wont even get them honestly moving any. they were made to be amped. the type S are allright, but their tweeter is titanium and leads to a very unnatural sound.

Thanks PBD. I need a pair because the Rodeo has 4" speakers in the rear. I have replaced the factory speakers, but I am afraid that once I get the sub instaled it is going to overpower the sound in the back. So thats why I am thinking about getting the 6x9's.

Now the sub is going to face the rear hatch, would it be ok to face the speakers in the same direction or should i have them facing towards the front of the vehicle. I know it sounds goofy to have them facing the rear, but someone is always in the backseat and I do not want to "blast" them out if the speakers are right behind their heads.

how far apart are they going to be if theyre facing each other?
if i were you, if youre getting a sub, why not look at a pair of 6 1/2" or 6 3/4" speakers?
why?
1. round speakers naturally sound better
2. usually cheaper
3. less space
4. since you have subs, you dont need a huge (well not huge...but you know) speaker like a 6x9 to make bass
a nice pair of coaxial 6 1/2s would be my preference over 6x9s if you have a sub
the new momos and DB speakers have 6 1/2 coaxials....might want to take a look at them
oo and btw...i have a pair of kenwood exceleron 4x6s running off of deck power...and they sound GREAT...im very pleased with them

4" speakers in something with a cabin like a rodeo (open space in back) would probably get overpowered (or just not get loud enugh) as you said.

off deck power i'd take the 6x9 over the 6.5 for only one reason - it'll get louder. otherwise, i'd agree w/ cody and think tht 6.5" midbass drivers or even coaxials were fine.

i dont think you should face the speakers to the rear (except the sub - face it whichever way it gets louder, mihgt be front / rear / left right / who knows). you'll end up fading a little front anyway on the headunit cuz you'll want a little more out of the front than the rear. you can probably face the little speaker boxes left and right... like up against the sidewalls and right behind the back seat, facing either left to right, or up. facing them backward will probably make everything sound really odd. music would have to bounce off the back window or panels and travel back forward... just seems like it would cause trouble.

the only problem i see ya havin w/ that is runnin speaker wire. since you'll be running them instead of the 4", you can obviously just tap into the wiring for the 4" at the speaker location and run new wire down to the boxes... just make sure u tuck it in behind the panels or whatever... don't go ghetto and leave it hnging out the hole *yikes* :) ... you probably already figured this out , but just in case, you can't run BOTH the 4" and the 6x9 off the same speaker leads... u'd cook the radio.
