Default Recommendations for music listening only!

I am thinking of setting up a system for music listening only. I already have my home theater setup going in the living room but want to do a setup in another room strictly for enjoying music. ANYONE?

What type of music do you listen to and do you want multi-channel capabilities? Are you looking for a digital or analog set-up or both?

Rock, oldies. I have records and cds, cassettes. I want it to have a good sound, a sound that will be enjoyed by anyone who listens to it.

Budget? We love to spend your money!

    Room layout?

    Volume preferences:
1: I like to be able to talk in a normal voice to my guests while listening

2: Its ok if I have to cup my hands to my mouth and shout to my guests to ask if they want another beer.

3: I like it so loud that I have to use hand signals to communicate.

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

    Awesome!!!!

    You rock!!!

Do you need everything - from TT, cassette player, CD player? Or just amplification and speakers?

Do you mind buying used? Or only new gear?

    A suggested configuration:
    Turntable: Music Hall 2.2 w/ cart 449
CD Player: Cambridge Azur 640-V2 400
    Integrated amp: Cambridge 840A 1100
Speakers: Dynaudio Contour 1.8 Mk. II 1500
    Speaker Cables Audioquest-Type 4 125
Interconnect Cables Audioquest 2pr King Cobras 240

    Total: $4,014

The Turntable and cart are new - everything else used from audiogon.com

    Does not include shipping prices.

Some change left over to pay for shipping, and a used cassette player someplace.

Just one of many possible setups!

Most people just listen to music and watch movies . I am glad to be a part of a select group that tries to take our auditory and visual senses to a higher level: we EXPERIENCE them.... GOT SDA?...GOT SUNFIRE? ...GOT Maggies?

    here's playing with your money.
    all new.
    belles:
    soloist 3 pre $895
    soloist 5 power $1095
    music hall mmf-5.1 $875
virtue audio piano m1 cdp $699
virtue audio nirvana 2x 1m pair interconnects $128 2m pair speaker cables $119
    usher v-604 speakers $995

    TOTAL $4806
$4561 with usher v-602 speakers and you could go with a less expensive turntable

the belles and music hall gear is from hollywood sound over at audiogon so you could maybe cut a better deal.
the usher speakers are at quest for sound over at audiogon, they also have a pair of smaller floorstanders (v-602 $750)
you might be able to cut a better price from virtue audio.

there is also a demo pair of usher 6311($2200) for $1200

you would still have get a phono preamp and later you could upgrade power cables.

here are two tube integrated amps you could sub in from grant fidelity.

this would save you money for shipping.
