    Default Ipod Touch/Wadia 171 combo

I put this combo together a few days ago, the new Wadia 171 and ipod touch. It sounds far superior than the standard audio output.

    BUT

I hear little "tics" all the time music is playing. These tics sound equal to an LP in mint condition with little static pops here and there. They seem to move left, middle, right, middle etc in various places. Does anyone else experience this? I tried the combo on a couple systems and DACs with different cables etc. The recorded material are .wav files.

Is this just the state of the art or do I have a defective device. These tics are not present on the analog out of the ipod. Maybe its a clock thing?

    Thanks

That's not what you want to hear with new equipment...

Does the sound cut out with the tics like a digital lock error, or do they occur with the sound playing?

It happens only while playing sounds. There is absolutely no dropout of sound, the tics are on top of the sound.

That's weird. Have you contacted Wadia?

Thats one reason I posted it here.

Sent Wadia an email, hopefully they will recognize the problem.

I had the Wadia 170 for around two years, and recently upgraded to the 171. I have three different iPod Classics that I use, all files are Apple Lossless, and have no issues whatsoever. In fact the 171 bought the sound level up above the 170.

From a troubleshooting perspective, since iPods are inexpensive, I would try another iPod. Its good to have a backup. Also, can you run the digital out from a CD player into the DAC to eliminate the DAC from the equation? If the problem persists with a different iPod, and the DAC is okay, then maybe the Wadia is the culprit.

I tried two dacs whicih work fine for everything else. Maybe I'll try someone elses ipod. I have no issue with the sound quality, just the tics on top of it.

I currently use a modified 170i. Basically had it rebuilt with superior parts throughout. Never ever had such an issue as you describe.

Since you already checked your DAC and cabling, try another iPod. If that doesn't resolve the issue, contact Wadia.

By the way, in the event you were not aware of this, Wadia does have a forum on their web page. You might find your answer there. Good luck.

    Update: Its fixed!

Wadia suggested I reset the ipod touch by holding power and menu down for a few seconds. It worked, all is good now, no tics at all and sounds awesome!
