    Default Audyssey DSX

Denon 4310 on the way. Any first hand knowledge? Is Audyssey front wides better than Dolby surround rears, or heights?

Depends on your placement. If your mains are correctly placed, the wides can help fill in the gap between the mains and side surrounds. Personally, my mains are spaced out pretty wide because of my projector screen, so I don't need the DSX width channels. I do, however, run DSX heights in my 9.2 setup.

I know Audyssey says that the width channels should take priority over rear surrounds... but honestly, if you have the space to place them well, rear surrounds do more to recreate the theatrical sound than DSX width/height does. I would ditch my height channels before I ever gave up my rear surrounds.
    Equipment list:
    Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
    Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
    Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
    DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
    Epson 8500UB 1080p projector
Elite Screens Sable 120" CineWhite screen

Insulated 12x24 room yesterday. Start rocking next week. Cant wait to compare traditional 7.1 vs. DSX w/width. I got the Denon4310ci, plenty of power, but I will have to re calibrate room for each test, too bad that a receiver at this level cant remember 2-3 preferences.

How much did it cost you to insulate the room?

Materials only, my son is remodeling room. He tore out paneling, so we were looking at new construction. Started out," Heh dad you guys need a theatre room." Well I got the bug. The insulation is not really expensive, all the other parts of remodeling existing building would not have been an option for me if my son had not done it.
Sheetrock is up, electrician is waiting to finish, getting a quote for tape,mud/finish, paint.

I cant wait. I fell into the "well for just a little more" frame of mind.
All the gear is here. I am still married! I am one lucky dog.
