    Default Carver Amps

Good or bad for entry level amp(s)? I realize Carver went out of business but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Any info someone can give me about them would be great.

How do Carver amps sound combined with my in your face Rti8s and Csi5?

They have a huge following and are frequently connected to Polks of all kinds.

Very neutral sounding, for their budget stuff, if your looking for a cheap carver amp to tame the rti8's brightness, you may be barking up the wrong tree. Just sayin' is all.

general consensus says they had some winners and losers, I have a m4.0t i recently had rebuilt, and a TFM 42 (same amp with a different outer shell as the 4.0t)

the rebuild I did to the 4.0t means that is pretty much going to be my amp for life.

Incidentally, these amps lean pretty much to the warm side, as they were specifically voiced to sound like Carver's signature amp at the time (Carver Silver 7)

I am running a 5 channel Carver amp (AV-705X) with my Monitor 60's (bi-amped currently) and a CS2 and honestly love the combo.

I did have some issues with the amp originally (see my Carver thread) but a bit o solder fixed that up easy as pie.

I've found the TFM 35 and 45 (same as 4.0T and TFM 42) are, as noted, fairly warm and on the laid back side vs. other amps I've heard or tried. That's why I kept them. So...they certainly won't hurt the RTis...won't completely tame them either.

A carver M1.5t was my first and second amp, I still have them and a 1.0t. I bought them when I thought power was the answer and it was for that set up (RTi12s for HT). I still might hook up the 1.0t this summer so I don't kill my A/C with the tube mono blocks I bought this winter. But, I like my carver stuff and would recommend them to anyone that wants a lot of power cheep that was built well.

Now if you want some really nice Bob Carver designed products go look a his Sunfire gear. I have one of the 400x7 in my HT and have loved it everyday since it showed up.
If life had more tubes it would be a lot smoother.

I see your point about an amp being for music but wouldn't movies sound better if you had more power running to your center channel as well as your fronts? I figure a channel amp is just as cheap as a 3 channel from what I've found and at least that way all of my speakers are powered by the same amp.

it was directed right at me, i dont do HT, that was my point to ES, i am a 2 channel guy, so a five channel amp is on the verge of useless to me unless i only want to run 2 of the five. plus i dont think id use a carver for music, personal preference, wont start a debate over it

I was in Jacksonville Fla at sound advice, now decease, and a guy and I got into a friendly debate about the Carvers.he was talking about the Harmonic Distortion of the carvers and how the Apogees<spell check, sounded better than the Polk 1.2's,don't think so.

Carver amps are not my cup of tea, but there are a lot of people here who use them and are happy. It's my opinion that many times you'll pay more for a used Carver amp than better performing second hand amps at equal or lower prices.

but I think it's pretty unanimous advice that the "cube amps" (m-400) should be avoided. but then again, im sure there are a few that even like those.

Eh, the M1.0t I can agree with but Carver amps bright?

A friend of mine had a Caver amp, I believe it was the A-220. It was a nice sounding amp and looked super cool. To me the sound seemed on the fast side, a little bright. Don?t get me wrong it was a nice amp but I like an amp with a little less snap. I think it would make a great home theater amp.
