Is this upgrade worth it?

Going from Monitor 40's to Monitor 60's? Would I notice a fairly large difference or would the difference be so slight I would have to listen really hard to notice? They would be powered by HK 147. Thanks.

I would say that it would be a pretty substantial jump. Do you have a sub currently?

The 40s and 50s will sound almost alike, going from the 40s to 60s would be a very noticeable improvement. Stepping up to the 70s would be the best bang for your buck imho. The monitor 70s are almost in a class all their own when compared to the rest of the monitor line. If you are seriously considering the 60s then you are already okay with towers so why not dive into the deep end of the pool and get the 70s....

Two sizes up? Heck yeah!! Higher sensitivity, higher power rating, one extra driver. Yes, on paper, I'd call it a substantial jump.

Don't have the experience with the 60's but own both the 70's and 40's, big difference. 60's should be right there close behind the 70's.

I don't think you need to make that jump. I think the 40s should pair just fine. If your going to floor stander I'd go to the 70s. Not because they would sound any better but because their resell value will probably be significantly higher if you decide to move on.

The 50s will give you a jump but mostly likely only in volume.

I went from the 50's to the 70's and it was a huge jump. Go with the 70's now, if you feel the receiver isn't enough then add an external amp.

If music matters, the 70s are probably the way to go. But if HT is your thing, then I would definitely you make sure to buy a sub if you don't have one.

The 70's are rated from 20 - 275 watts. If your receiver can push at least 20 watts per channel with all channels driven, you'd have enough power. Granted, more power would make them more dynamic, but there's you answer.

im running the 70s my receiver claims to put out 75 watts per channel...which is actually less with all channels driven. The 70s are fine. More power would make them more dynamic, but really they are fine....im runnin 60s too.

I would go with the Monitor 70's. They are by far the best new monitors by Polk you can buy. Every other week they are on sale at Newegg for 179.00 a piece w free shipping. This is for a speaker that was around 450.00 a pop when it first came out. . Good luck,Darryl
