As promised,,and in the flesh. The born on date of these puppies is 3-28-07,,thats 4 years in my book. After looking at Trey's mod thread,it got me thinking,so I pulled a driver and took a peek,,,hmmm,, Bennic electrolytics',,a Solen,,a Hovland in the tweeter circuit, with Eagle brand resistors in both sections.I thought to myself,,I should be able to do something here. After agonizing over which caps to use I settled on Clarity ESA series for the low/mid and the MR for the tweeter,,Mills resistors (12watt) replaced the 10 watt Eagles. The crossovers are PTP wired on a piece of particle board,,and the same for the tweeter circuit and glues to the interior walls of the cabinet.Removal was quite easy with a 3 inch putty knife/blade.Then a simple swap is all that it took for the crossover components. At this point,I might add that outboard crossovers did cross my mind,,but what the heck,,I'll just glue em' back in.Now,,they are in play,,how do they sound?,,,well,,the detail at low level is just simply amazing,,soundstage is wide and deep,,and the "tone" is just great.I always thought that the 7U's leaned on the bright side,, not anymore,,they are very "involving",,smooth and not bright by any stretch,,room filling to say the least.I'm burning them in at the moment,,and I gotta tell you that Shawn Mullins 9th Ward pickin parlor has never struck me,,until today,.There is so much "air" around the instruments,,involving,,indeed.I don't know how long the burn in is,,but so far,,I'm impressed.
