Pioneer 1020 Receiver

Any one have one? Care too share your opinions on it? I just picked up an open box at Best Buy for $350. So for I love it. I'm hoping someone who's had one for a while can give an opinion.

Pioneer makes very nice receivers from top to bottom. It's really not the question if the receiver is nice , it's a matter of what your are driving with it. The synergy between the speakers and receiver is very important. This can make or break a system.

On a side note , I only do Elite models and don't put my hands or ears on the regular models.

I could have gotten a VSX-30 Elite for the same price. Everything about them is essentially the same. Maybe I'll go back and get the Elite. I'm driving monitor 60's and a CS2. Either has plenty of power for me.

Your right,either has more than enough power for those speakers. Key here is "those speakers". Someday when the upgrade bug bites, and you want a 7 channel surround system with big floorstanders like the LSI's, you will had wished you had sprung for a receiver with preouts to be able to add that amp down the road.

Depends on the price on the Elite...

Honestly, the 30 shouldn't even be called an Elite model. IMO Pioneer really didn't do a great job with the current Elite models. If i were you I'd keep the 1020 you have now, it'll be fine driving those Monitors, and then wait until the next gen of receivers hit the market.

I didn't see the previous note about price, yeah if they're the same price may as well go for the Elite model, why didn't you get that in the first place?

I've been having problems getting my laptop to work with AVR's. I brought the laptop to Best Buy, the VSX 30 didn't send a signal to a tv. The 1020 did, so I bought it. Open box, but it's literally perfect. I don't think anyone ever hooked it up.

And I just bought all of this stuff in the last month. So the upgrade bug won't hit for about a year. My wife refuses to let me buy another piece of audio equipment. Divorce may be in the works if I do. I'm actually pretty happy with what I have. It sounds awesome.

I'm trying to find a better deal on a receiver I have a budget of $500. Like I said I paid $350 for the 1020. But the no pre outs is starting to bother me. I'm there's a couple of Yamahas I have my eye on. I just really like the Pioneer sound. I'm looking for a 1121, but not having much luck.

I would look at the Yamaha 667, they are starting to go on clearance and might be able to snag one for a good price.

I haven't read much on the 1021, but I heard there was an issue and they were being shipped back to Pioneer. Still don't think that it had Pre-outs.

I am in the same boat, bought my 1020 for a good price and now I'm regretting not getting Pre-outs

I've been reading this thread and others and just ordered a refurb sc-35 from united online. Looks like all those returns are finally hitting the refurb outlets. I had the same fears about not having preouts and ended up with the ice amp model. The 1120 is one of the models with preouts. I think they have that model as a refurb also. What ever avr you end up with you got a great price on the 1020 so if in the future you upgrade you will be out little cash.
