    Default Ice Blocks

Am interested in picking up a pair of Seymour Av Ice Blocks. Does anybody have any hands on experience with these?

Like a number of other compaines they are using the generic ICE ASP series modules and clothing them with some nice looking metal work.I had a 250 ASP module (like that used in the 2001) for subwoofer duty which it did amirably.

I'd like to say all ICEpowered amps are created equal, however they are not. In most ways they are similar(all use B&O Class D modules ), but each manufacturer goes out of the way to add a little of this & that. If your going to try Icepower, I'd try D-Sonic or W4S since they have been used around the forums. Nothing wrong with Seymour AV though, again same concept give or take. If the price fits, then go for it. I use a D-Sonic Magnum 1000S to power my Rti12s and it has performed well since I purchased it in 07. If your seriously wanting to try Ice, funds in check, then take a look at Red Dragons also.

Holy crap, I would have to put electrical tape across the front of those red dragons. That Magnum 1000s is exactly what I am hunting for without even knowing it. Was looking at mono blocks because hadn't ran across any high wattage stereo amps. Thank you for the links.

Did notice that the Seymour's have a ten year warranty. Have always been into people who stand behind their gear.

I have seen some tack on things their own input buffer to make it a friendlier load for the preamp etc. That amounts to a very minor change and allows a given company to tout their exclusivity, however if it uses the ASP module for all intents and purposes the amplification circuitry is identical.

I have a Parasound 5250 right now, want to expand into seven channels. Thought getting a bit beefier amp for the mains would be the right route to free up some juice for my front highs. Will these things mix in or am I better off sticking with all Parasound stuff?

I did not notice the warranty as I just looked at the product briefly. Dennis at D-Sonic is a very stand up guy. We actually keep in touch via email to this day, as we talk shop from time to time. There is a huge thread over at AVS on D-Sonic and W4S. So if you need comparisons you can read up there. I really like mine, love having the headroom also. I played those RTi12s until I just felt like my room would crumble due to loudness. They still played well at those high levels, and the amp kept up with no problems. IceAmps are very good regardless of which you choose. Pioneer Elites now use them, so definitely worth the look.

I agree with that FTGV, I think I made mention of that. The modules for the most part are identical. Some manufacturers will also make mention of power supplies, etc. Just small things here and there.

As for mixing them bro, I think you will be ok. I have the D-Sonic on my fronts and a Sunfire TGA 5200 on the remaining 5 channels. The setup sounds fantastic, though I am using a Pioneer SC-07 as a pre. I think you will be fine.

Wyred modifies the boards themselves too.
