Default Just my first listening session with sacd and dvd/a

I first and foremost want to thank a member of the forum who just sent me a few sacd's and dvd/a's just out the goodness of his heart .He has not asked for a penny and paid the postage and everything

I feel totally blown away by the quality of these recordings and the martin logans have never sounded sooooo good

I used my tube amp at first and loved the experience but it was not until I used my pioneer elite receiver that I really heard the top end .I must get new tubes for the pre section of that tube integrated

I think I need to get myself some serious gear to really get the most out of sacd as I know now what a good recording is supposed to sound like . One album was the rolling stones and it sounded very airy and alive . The bass response was a OMG moment as it took me a few seconds to really get used to this awesome sound .It sounded like I had a guy using the kick drum right in my living room as I never heard the clarity from drums like this ever .I feel like I have been spoiled and it really sucks bad that all music was never done on the format

One problem I have had is trying to get my sacd to go through optical on the pioneer sacd player .But for now I think I need to get some decent ic's for 2 channel listening as I use the cheap monoprice monotone ic's at the moment .

Once again thanks to the polkie who took the time and his own dime to help a guy out

I messed up the thread title because of the budwiser as I have not been drinking the light and hitting the red

SACD can not be transmitted through optical. The CD layer of a hybrid SACD....yes. The SACD layer....no.

And welcome to the SACD "club".

You need a proper SACD/DVD-A player, otherwise, like Danny said, you will be listening to a CD (most of the time Redbook) version of the album, not SACD. You also need to use the 6-channel analog outputs, not stereo.

I'm curious too what you're using as an SACD / DVD-A player? It's a good point that most DVD players will read most SACD/HDAD discs, but you'll only be getting the redbook quality layer from the SACD and the DVD (not DVD-Audio) of HDAD discs.

Depending on the player and model of your Pio you can use HDMI. And you only need the 6 channels of analog if you're listening to that layer. Most modern SACD's have a 2-channel SACD layer in addition to the 5.1 option. Same with lots of DVD-A's. So, better 2-channel interconnects would probably do if you wanted to go back to non-HDMI enabled gear. Just make sure you've selected the proper configuration options or tracks so that you're listening to the 2-channel material.
