Your thoughts?

Hey guys, I am new to HT and need a little help. I have recently purchased a pair of rti-a3's, a csi-a4, a pair of fx500i's and a Bic pl-200 for my sub. My room is 17x14x8. My first Q is about the a3's - so far they are unimpressive, should I remove the port cover? I know I have a lot of adjustments to make still and am not dogging the speaker in any way. I would love some feedback from people with experience. As soon as I can get some peace and quiet I can run my room calibration and get a fair assessment. My next Q is your thoughts on the fx500i's. I have not found much about them. I picked them up off C. L. as part of an eight speaker package for what I believe to be a crazy good price, $140 for everything. Are these the right speakers for my set up? Also I am thinking of going with two front height speakers, any recommendations that would blend well with my system would be appreciated. Welcome to the forum!

The RTiA's and CSiA speakers will provide a nice front soundstage, mainly because they're from the same series and are timbre-matched (voice matched) to eachother. Like all speakers, if they're not sounding all that great then it's time to look at the obvious; placement, power, and processing (IE settings on your receiver/preamp/etc).

Awesome surround speakers, and even though they're of a different line of speakers they'll work out great as surrounds.

Question for you, what are you using to power these speakers? How big is your room? What's your arrangement looking like?

My previous HT setup had RTiA3s for fronts and the CSi3 center (which the CSiA4 is the newer model) - and I was very happy with the sound for both music and movies.

As with most speakers, they thrive when given good source material and good amplification. So it could be your other electronics are holding back how the RTiA3s can sound.

Let me start by saying any problems I am having, I'm sure are due to my ignorance. That said here is a complete run down of my equipment. Panosonic p42st30 - denon avr791 - ps3 - 14 guage wire w/banana plugs - 2 rti a3's - csi a4 - 2 fx500i's - bic pl-200 - direct tv HD DVR & an acoustic research surge protector/line conditioner. I will post some pics ass soon as I figure out how. I have not hooked up the surrounds yet, I am in the process of building stands for them now. I will report back when I get my system dialed in a little better. Thanks fellas - Tank

Are you happy with the sound from the CSi-A4? For me, I preferred the A1 over the A3 due to the 5.25" drivers. They just seemed to have more life to them.

Also, if the A3 hasn't had much play time on them, they will need to break in for a while before you can get the sound out of them that they were designed to produce.

Just a quick report. I finally had a chance to run audyssey, and I'm extactic with the results. Night and day difference in the a3's as I am now getting some real sound from them. To answer you skip, this is my first real system so I don't have much to compare to. I am happy with the center although just having a center channel took some getting used to. I had two Bose bookshelfs that I was using before, so the "phantom" center is what I was accustomed to. Whith the a4 everything is more detailed an crisp. The more I listen to these the more I appreciate them. I can't wait to get the surrounds up and running. Thanks again everybody for all the advice, I chatted with a lot of Polk owners before making my purchases and am very happy w/the outcome. Thanks - Tank
