Protective Covers, Anyone??? (HELP... CATS!)

Hey Everyone,

I am new to the Polk Audiophile Family. :) I recently replaced my Infinity RS-5's (circa 1986) with a pair of ebony LSi15's and a PSW650. I have yet, however, to take them out of their respective boxes, because the reason I needed to replace the RS-5's was that a number of years back I foolishly married a cat-person. before I was even aware that her four cats were climbing all over them, they had completely destroyed the port seals on each speakers' twin woofers! Well, she is long gone :p, but when she left (in a hurry) she left the two female cats behind :(. I could never find it in my heart to get rid of them, and my current girlfriend has brought a kitten of her own into the relationship, but I refuse to allow my girls to destroy my speaker investments ever again!!!

So what I am looking for now are high quality, heavy duty, (preferably, but I am open) clear, easily removable, heavy plastic covers to protect my speakers when in not in use. I have grown to love my girls, but I am not willing to compromise the integrity (by spraying them with chemical pet repellents...) or inherent beauty (by, say, encircling them with chicken wire) any longer!

Please help me if you can, and post advice or comment here ASACP. It will all be deeply appreciated.... And Polk, if you are reading this, you are in a particularly great position to profit from designing and offering such products to your loyal customers (the very first place I looked was in your online store's Accessories section - which is also the first place I had heard about 'Club Polk'). And if you do not want to do so, can I have the franchise?!? :D

I thank you all in advance. I am dying to take these babies out of ther boxes and gaze upon their beauty... Let alone LISTEN to them!!!!!

My first thought is to put your gear in a room that you can close the door behind you and not worry about the cats getting into. If that's not possible, then I'm sure you can have some lexan type plastic covers made by a good glass shop. Give them the specs and they will build them.

First of all, that is the most blatant over-use of smilies I have EVER seen. Knock it off.

Second, declaw the effin cats, and get a man-cave going - keep them out.

How about removing the grill covers from the front and from the 8" woofer and spraying them down with repellant and re-installing them after they dry. I've also heard of people keeping a squirt gun or spray bottle handy and hitting cats with a well placed steam of water if they get too close to their speakers. Supposedly it doesn't take to many "Hits" before the cats learn not to go near the speakers.

I know that it may sound cruel, but de-clawing may be your only sure fired, 100% guarrantee of keeping the cats from damaging your speakers.

Is there a real reason to have cats as anything other than torture toys? Pets around electronics will NEVER happen at my place.......

Install an invisible fence (they are sticks that stick where you put them that send electrical charges from one stick to the other, and the cat will wear a collar. Only the cat can get shocked, as soon as the cat passes into the stickers the cat will retreat. It's simple, and they learn fast.....

Thank God! Damn I hate those things...!

...And I know this whole cat thing makes you all think I am less a man for having them, but though it was my ex-wife's decision I become a cat owner, now that I am, my own sense of integrity requires that I be as responsible as I can... i.e. just because I may have mistakenly let her rip my balls off, doesn't give me the right to rip their claws out too (although I have often been tempted!). My cats get their asses kicked by no one!

Oh, and the live-end/dead-end locked and sealed 'man cave' is a great idea, but in my current apartment (a loft) there is only the front door and the bathroom door... and the equipment would only fit in the bathroom if I put both LSi's in the tub and used the PSW650 as an ottoman for the toilet!

Again, all great ideas, but they assume that I am here all day and awake all night... the only time they DON'T jump on the speakers is when I am there using them!

Rus is right about the Smiles
Sometimes people get carried away with those damn things. But others use them only when they are truly needed.:) It's frustrating when someone clutters up a post for no good reason. I hope that I never do, I would really be, well :o I suppose. Actually I'm way to to ever do something like that.:p Holy crap...I need to find a few more !
