I never cared much for any of the DUALs; too farking complicated. The Yamaha YP-211 is very much a no-frills, entry-level belt drive Japanese turntable. That's not necessarily a bad thing - but don't expect 'high-end' performance from it. Price seems a bit steep to me unless it's "like new".

FWIW, most if not all Yamaha turntables were OEMs built by CEC for Yamaha (CEC made many of the name brand turntables for big-name Japanese manufacturers in the good old days).

Since turntables by definition are chock full of precision moving parts - wear and tear can be an issue with elderly examples such as the two in question. Check for play in the arm bearings and also the spindle bearing. Do they come with new belts, or will you have to buy new belts? Stuff like that...

EDIT: Oh, one cool thing about the CS-1237... like most if not all vintage DUAL turntables, I believe that the arm is dynamically rather than statically balanced. This can come in handy if you want to set the turntable at, say, a 45 degree angle, play records upside-down, or play records in outer space.

    Info on the 1237:

Note that it, too, was apparently their entry-level product.

Buy em both, sell the one that loses the "contest" or buy a Thorens for approx. $175.00-$225.00 that'll outperform both of those tables, handily.

I agree with buying them both if they are in good working order. Try them out and with the same cartridge I doubt if you'll hear any difference.
Decide which one is the easiest for you to operate and sell the other one.

Dual made excellent turntables Glock makes excellent handguns and they both have a hate group following
TO ERR IS HUMAN. TO FORGIVE IS CANINE.
