I've got to say, I'm not a big fan of new country but I've always liked Vince Gill's feeling. And to hear him playing Duane Allman's guitar is pretty cool. I think he does is justice.

Gill was a nice addition to the Pure Prarie League after they'd lost a couple of the early guys. Not too crazy bout his recent work....... or any other recent country flavored music for that matter.

In September 1978, auditions found Vince Gill (vocals, guitars, mandolin, banjo, fiddle), who had played with the bluegrass outfit Mountain Smoke, as well as Boone Creek(with Ricky Skaggs) and the Sundowners(with Byron Berline).

I have been an Allman Brothers fan since I heard their debut album in 1970. IMO Vince Gill certainly has the pedigree to play Duane's guitar...beginning with his work with Pure Prairie League. Mark Knopfler thought enough of his ability to ask him to join Dire Straits. He is an excellent guitar player and accomplished on several other string instruments. I enjoy all of Gill's music.

This is all the endorsement I need, as to whether he's a ligitimate player

Gill is considered to be one of the best pure guitar players in Nashville (which encompasses a LOT of players). Here is some more of his work.

He has a large guitar collection...many of his own...and many from other noted guitar players. Quite a few of them were destroyed in the flood of Downtown Nashville a year or so ago. It actually brought a tear to his eye when he spoke to a group about the significance of some of the guitars he lost.

Given his background, his ability and love of the instrument...I think Duane Allman would be pleased to have Gill play his guitar.

When people like Knopfler and Clapton invite you to play guitar with them, I think you have arrived as a guitar player.

I'm pretty sure that Gill played in one or more of the Clapton/Crossroads concert film/DVDs.

Vince Gill has been part of all three Crossroads Guitar Festivals put on by Clapton (2004, 2007, 2010) and was on the DVDs of 04 and 07.

BTW...the Crossroads Guitar Festival from 2010 is on my PBS station right now as part of their "Great Performances" series. Great stuff!

I had not seen this video until tonight...Gill is on the 2010 DVD as well.
