    Default New SDA 1C's

Woohoo!... got me a nice set of SDA 1C's today and they sound great, especially in tandem with my SDA CRS+ speakers. Now I just have to get another Carver 1.5t amplifier to help push them.

I hate to say it but I paid $600 for them , but they are like new with the original interconnect and everything...I give them a 9.5 out of 10 for the home version.

Hey, at least you'll appreciate them that much more! Do they have the upgraded tweeters (RD0-194)? If not, most recommend this to be the best bang for the buck tweak for those speakers. I have the SDA 2B's.

Hey brgman...they were getting too much for me , so I passed and got the 1C's instead; but I'm not at all disappointed!

On second thought, I wouldn't think about modifying them. There was something special about my 2B's before I performed almost every mod possible to them. Sometimes I wish I didn't touch a thing!

As far as I know , they appear to be all original with the SL 2000 tweets and the 6510 and 6511 mid drivers and the original crossover components. I hate to touch them because they sound so great and if it ain't broke , don't fix it...I always say...but one day I might do the upgrades on the speakers if they start breaking down on me.

My new SDA 1C's sound great with the originals still in. I don't think our sets were abused in any way and they seem to sound fine to us so far.

    Congrats on your new set.!!!

Are they all black or oak topped?

SDA's never disappoint. I have a set of SDA 1a's here in my computer room that are every bit as enjoyable as the big boys. They are addictive for sure.

they are oak, but at some time some one stained them walnut, but it looks good. The nice thing about the color change is it matches my SDA CRS+ speakers.

Congrats on the speakers. I love my 1C's and they are stock except for an "upgraded" interconnect. I bet that walnut stain looks pretty nice.

Congrats on the new speakers. I feel like the odd man out myself with my 1 B's but I love them anyway.

Pay no attention here. This guy argues with himself more than two mirrors facing each other.

Congrats on the 1C's. You will love them. I have a pair, have done the usual mods, and have a thread documenting the crossover rebuild that I did. They sound fantastic in stock form, but some of the mods the members here have discovered really bring out the best in them. That, plus a good source chain and you'll be happy with them for many years to come.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Congrats on your new 1C's,you made a worthwhile investment in good sound...enjoy them in their stock form and one day when the "new" wears off,you can start down the mod trail.

Pay no attention here. Not everybody likes a pimped out ride. Some enjoy the original.

Then you may as well be saying that not everybody enjoys higher fidelity audio, because that's what you are missing out on if you don't do the upgrades.

To the orignal poster, please listen to people with the experience rather than people still learning they need to gain some. That is not an insult, but fact.

Higher fidelity audio comes with a price. These are the same guys saying buy more expensive gear for your upgraded speakers every time I mention a problem with how they sound now.

    Think twice about upgrading.

I insulted this guy's masculinity ONE time, now every time he thinks of a comeback he ends up TRYING to insult mine. I wonder why it got to him so much?

    Fiero,
Don't be rushing to mod them if they sound fine to you.
What you will find is many of us are, for lack of a better term, 'tinkerers' and can't resist making suggestions. Some, as you will see by looking at photos of our handiwork, are better than others at executing them.
Half the fun of course should be the learning process. Whether it is gaining a better understanding of how these things we call loudspeakers work, or just exposing ourselves to something new.
I lived with a set of 10B's for 20 years before I touched them.
I am now the proud owner of a set of 'pimped out' 1C Studios and thoroughly enjoy them.
Whatever you do decide to do, enjoy the journey.
But, be warned if you start listening to us about upgrades we will start spending your money like those folks in DC with absolutely no concern for your well being.
    Happy Trails,
    Nathan

believe me, I know about obsessive compulsive disorder and spending the moon on upgrades and improvements. I suffer from it too. My next aquisition is another Carver amp to help run my Polks in the front and the back.

    Fiero,

I have a pair of 1C that thanks to the recomendation of nooshinjohn i got. I love them so much, have gone back and forward with other speakers like ML and so on, and always come back to my 1Cs. I have upgraded them following others in this forum, and I will tell you that is almost night and day. I went with SonicCraft, mills and clarity caps on top of rdo 194 cardas binding post, dynamat, and jweld also replaced the sda cable an installed female rca and use a rca cable as sda and don't regret a single penny. The changes for me are incredible, soundstage more present, sda effect is awesome with the right source like mikey hart and Bill krautzmann on my live recordings are just wow. Just my 2 cents.

Heaven knows , I will upgrade them eventually, esp the crossovers, the dynamat sounds like a good idea too, but I'm in no hurry and just will enjoy them for a while until I get my amplifier sources built up too. Got my eye on a Carver M-500t!
