Default SDA SRS 2 with adcom gfa 7700 problem

Hi guys, here is my situation. I just recently bought an SDA SRS 2, adcom gfa 7700 amplifier and onkyo p301 preamp. I properly connected all 3 of them and when i turned it on, i get a loud sound and it do the same thing when i turned it off. When i connect my other speakers klipsch klf 30, it works fine.

Then i used a vintage pioneer sx780 for the sda and it work fine.there was no lose wires or connection i even used a different rca and speaker cable but it still do the same thing. any suggestion on what was the problem.

    Thanks,
    Joe

I believe that adcom is a NON common ground amp. SDA's REQUIRE a common ground amp or an AI-1 IC cable.

Try disconnecting the cable between the speakers, does it still happen? And welcome to the world of SRS-SDAs,SRS2s are great model to have!

Blade/Blade SRS 2? Yeah, you can MODIFY the speaker to accept an AI-1 cable, but it's an unsatisfactory solution because the sound quality is "off" somewhat.

Better to TL them (RDO-198 tweeter mod) and use with a common-ground amp.

PIN/Blade SRS 2? You're all set to add an AI-1 or equivalent (Dreadnaught). See multiple discussions on the impossibility (or not) of using the 198 tweeter.

Waaaayyyyy simpler to get a different, common ground amp,BTW.

Yeah, I figured as much. I was sort of amusing myself, sorry.

If your serial numbers are 1945 or higher, you can use the AI-1. If not, you'll need to get a common ground amp.

Polk hasn't sold the AI-1 for many years, so short of finding one for sale, you'll have to build one.

    Joe,

As I mentioned in my email to you earlier, your best bet is going to be to call Adcom, confirm you can strap two of the negative terminals on your amp with a piece of speaker wire and use those two channels.

Strapping has a less than desirable effect on the sonics.
