    Default Separates pro or con

Been using separates now I just purchased an Integra Dtr 80.2 receiver. The unit does have pre outs. Would I benefit by adding on my 5400 Sunfire Amp. I bought the receiver for 3-d Hdmi 1.4. Only know from what I have read about the receiver which comes highly rated. Thanks in advance for any feedback received.

When I switched my AVR (Sony DA7100ES @ 175w/ch) from doing all the work to using it as a pre-processor with the Sunfire TGA-5400 amp I was amazed at the better sound, and more well defined, solid bass. Later I upgraded the 5 ICs to MIT, and upgraded the speaker wire, and those two items also made a big improvedment to the end sound. I am using 4 LSi15 speakers, and a PSB Synchrony One center.

If you dont want to use the Sunfire amp, I would be glad to take it off your hands for no charge .

But seriously, use the amp you have for sure. AVR's normally dont give you their full wpc rating when using all channels. There are lots of reasons (dont feel like listing them lol) and your Sunfire amp will drive your gear better.

    Enjoy the new gear!

plus one to all the above, but I can also add that I found a huge improvement by dumping the AVR and going with a pre/pro instead. I think the Onk is a great unit however and should serve you well as a pre/pro. I know of no processors that are currently capable of HDMI 1.4

I say it depends on you speakers and room size and listening preferences. I used to have a pretty high end Arcam seperates system consisting of 2 Arcam P1 monoblocks, a P38 stereo amp, and Arcam's (at that time) $6500 Av9 processor. I loved that system. I was however limited to 4 channels of power and no room in my rack to add any more amps as i also had an Oppo bluray player and an Arcam CD37 cd player. One day i decided to sell it all and look for the best one box solution possible. I stumbled upon "The Upgrade Company" and bought their upgraded Onkyo TX NR5008 receiver.

Can my old P1 monoblocks push my speakers harder? Possibly in a bigger room i might notice the difference but in my room, this receiver is handily beating my old separates system for both movies and music. And another plus is i was able to go from 30 or so wires down to maybe 5.

Normally I would have gone with a pre pro, In fact Integra has one the DHC 80.2 but could not pass up this deal. Will see. Thanks
