Something wrong with the folks in China that they can't come up with an original idea???
'Political Correctness'.........defined
"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."
Same with India. I suspect it is due to stifling cultures and/or religions. Keep the creative mind suppressed for the good of the group. However, they are good at stealing intellectual property, and working cheap. MBAs love off shoring labor and ideas, since they get their bonuses whether the U.S. company succeeds or sinks.Something wrong with the folks in China that they can't come up with an original idea???
Whoa, to say that they can't come up with original idea is completely ignorant and it seems to show how little you know outside of US of A ;)
These people do it for the money, if they can ride on the tailcoat of an already established brand with minimal financial and legal repercussions then they will take the risks.
We ought to sue them for the value of our national debt.

There is some genuine truth in this statement, Jesse. I spent a year there trying to pass on some American style wisdom about what kind of curriculum and training encourages, independence, innovation, and vision!
The amount of rote learning and imitation there is LEGION. And, some of this is, partly, due to the many many years of political rule from the TOP where almost no one was encouraged to think 'against' the regime or 'beyond' it. And 'individuality' was suppressed and vilified in many many public political campaigns. Art, writing, film, painting, music, etc. were all impoverished until groups of Chinese intellectuals began to come to the U.S. (and other Western Nations) to study in the mid-eighties. I met a group of these in NYC at that time--most specifically the Chinese composer Tan Dun and the Filmmaker, Chen Kaige (Farewell My Concubine and The Emperor and the Assassin--among others.
Both of these individuals were overwhelmed by the 'freedom' and the arbitrariness of the artist in the West and imbibed all they could during their time here. Tan Dun went on to recover many peasant traditions and instruments from China's past (some can be found in his soundtrack for Hidden Tiger, Crouching Dragon), experiment with instruments of his own creation and musical compositions (fusions of East and West). He has also collaborated a lot with Yo-yo Ma more recently.
But there is still a general malaise in China about their 'contributions' to the world and in science, in particular!

And then there's our addiction to walmart and target... A large part of every dollar we spend on the cheap goods from stores like these goes to the Chinese who in turn "lend" the money back to us to finance our national debt. Third world cheap labor provides us with our low inflation and cheap consumer goods. I guess you can call Walmart some big evil corporation selling us out, but they're really giving the consumer what they want.
IMHO, what we really need is equal access to the Chinese market so we can earn that dollar back with US goods and services. Those fake apple stores exist because there are so few US owned retail stores of any kind "allowed" in China. And our government just lets the socialists in China dictate one way restrictions like these because we are now so dependent on China for our debt and consumer goods.

???? I would have to say that building offshore ships that collect and process lumber then send it back with specification so loose that you cant tell if they are metric or standard but selling the labor so cheap it puts our lumber mills out of business was pretty innovative.
Or how about the old..buy all the coke and scrap steel so when they stop manipulating their market theres not enough resources left to effectively compete with their cheap steel.
They are very good at coming up with ides its just that they have never been ethical by our bureaucratic standards. Being nice in the financial world and spreading the wealth is a thing of the past. Now if only WE could figure THAT out.
All this talk makes Donald Trump sound like he knows what he's talking about on China and our trade agreements.
At the end of the day, it's a tale about how the world is shrinking and we're finding out how we're all interconnected.
They've a huge country with still very low cost structures (and everything good and bad that comes with it), we've a free market with very advanced communication, logistic and opportunistic money hungry people inbetween. Of course products will be sourced and produced in China to 'fulfill' the demand of the american public.
And the consumptive lifestyle goes on, and the credit bubble keeps on inflating, and...

Big picture- we are the consumers, They are the producers.
Anybody remember how that worked in H. G.Well's "Time Machine"?![]()
