    Default hum w/ HDMI

Hi guys, Well we've been here before but this time things have worked out for the better w/ a twist. I used to have a refurbished old Sony fake wood w/ glass front rack which was starting to fall apart. Since some of my gear is rack face mountable I built my own rack.Off to Home Depot I got so angle irons ,L brackeks, hardware and some wood for shelving. This time when I derigged I labeled everything so no mistakes would be made like the grief I had and
talked about many times. The rack gets fastend things get plugged in and now I get t hum that was as loud as the music. This is driving me nuts, nothing was touching the steel that shouldn't no shorts and no grounds ,so what gives. Then I started the old process of elimination and to my amazement and surprize it was the HDMI cord going to the cdp. Why, well that's for you guys to figure out but thankfully I have an optical lead going from the avr the cdp.
I know the quality of the cord wasn't the best but it was a very short one.
If I get another cord and the hum is still there then we have some other issue. Thanks for looking and here's my rig in it's entirety.....

Just out of curiosity, did you try multiple HDMI cords to verify that the cord was bad? If you have not, then you didn't really narrow the problem to the HDMI cord; it could also be either an internal problem with the HDMI connection from the receiver or an internal problem with the connection to the CDP.

Now if you DID replace the HDMI cable with another HDMI cable and you did NOT get the same noise, then you have successfully trouble-shot the problem.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

Your hum is from somewhere else, not the HDMI and you changed things, so whatever work you did is the cause.

You have a common ground loop problem or a bad cable somewhere. The hdmi cable is unlikely the culprit, though I wouldn't rule it out either if it's a cheap one.

Disconnect the hdmi cable from your cable box to your system or tv and it will stop... I had this issue with my cable box making the sytem hum... maybe you have the same issue.

I believe the HDMI cord that I think is the problem was w/ the cdp and probably a very cheap one and it did have a kink from the constraints of the old rack. I did not try another cord right now it's working fine w/ the optical and w/ my bugdet at end of the month deal I can't run out and get another one. I'm no golden ear so I do not hear any difference by using the optical for now.

Optical/TOSLINK will always remove the bad ground cause by a crappy cable install. Cable installers are THE WORST offenders EVAR for grounding.
