Mythos STS in the house

Picked up pair of these a few weeks ago for under 1500 shipped
They arrived in original boxes and in perfect like new shape, running them with my SC-07 and using Audioquest Rocket 88 speaker cables and I couldnt be more happy......these speakers are fantastic in HT and are very musical as well....bass is MORE than enough and I am now selling my Velo SPL 15R sub as its not needed with these speakers.....looking for a matching center and rears as now using a TOTL Mirage center and Polk 500 FXI rears. In 2 channel use these sound as good as speakers costing many $$$$ more. Thanks for your help Dan as these truly are a great speaker................have listened to many others in the Def Tch line but these are heads and shoulders above what I have listened to..............

Your very welcome. I always try and share GEMS when I find them. Mythos series speakers from the bottom to the top are uncanny. They WOW you with theater and can bring a tear to your eye with Music. I still own my ST's and I have no plans on getting rid of them. I was shopping around looking at Klipsch and B&W and just for the sheer reason of owning something different was really the underline goal. But in the end I stuck with y Mythos system and I'm completely happy.
I still run my SC-07 and haven't found a reason to upgrade it until now. The Brand new SC-57 is due out soon and I want to pick one up only for the IP control. If the SC-07 was upgradeble to IP control I would just keep it as it does everything I want it to do and sounds damn close to separates.

I believe I told you this already but you have a few choices for center channels with the STS.
1) Mythos 9. It's the perfect match and will sound like one full soundstage with the STS off to the right and left.
2) Mythos 10. It's matched to the ST's but does work well with the STS as the timbre is exact.
3)CS-8060HD. It's the new BP series center but it has a timbre just like the Mythos series now. From what I learned they are voiced the same so this is a good choice. I plan on bringing home a CS-8080HD to do a VS battle with the Mythos 10 to see which sounds better with my ST's. According to our DEF TECH rep , this center is amazing as he replaced his 10 with it and loves the hell out of it. I want to give that a shot.

As for rears it really depends on your room , placement and what you listen to the most. I Honestly believe you should just get Mythos 9's and call it a day. They are the perfect match your STS's and will make for an incredible SACD and DVD AUDIO experience not to mention theater is down right scary with them pulling surround duty.

I'm very pleased your loving the STS's as I really did a huge shoot out between them and the ST's. They are about 85-90% of the ST's for 1000.00 retail less. I would be just as happy if I purchased them instead of my ST's and with the extra cash I could have purchased other stuff. But the ST's are the king for a very good reason as directly compared have the last word in overall everything.

Let me know if you need any help calibrating them, they can be a little tricky to get right. I have spend countless hours perfecting the perfect calibration technic's to get them to perform 100%. With a little help and advice from Def Tech as well.

I'm gonna require some pic's of those babies. Love to see them in your set up. Also sounds like another club we could start in here. ICE DEF TECH.

Dan, I like the CS8080HD much better than the Mythos 10. The problem I had with the 10 is it trying to produce a full range sound and it does a good job but the 8080 sounds much cleaner and the clarity is much better. You can only get so much out of that small of an enclosure.

I'm running my Mythos ST off my Pioneer Elite sc-27 and didn't like what MCACC did to the top end so I turned the EQ off.

It made it too bright. I like the sound better running it flat. As Dan said earlier these speakers can be very tricky setting up properly.

What else I noticed about the SC-57 is the dual sub outs . I so want that to make my life easier to calibrate the ST's. I can do without it , it's fine but the dual outs allow you to leave everything plugged in and calibrate from your chair. Ok call me lazy but I like that feature.

This receiver will finally take my SC-07 off my hands. It's going to be tuff to let it go , I might just keep it I like it that much.

I get it with being a powered full range center channel. The Mythos 10 does a killer job when wall mounted. I'll post some pic's of mine wall mounted. It's how it's intended to be installed. In the field I only put one Mythos 10 on a cabinet top and it didn't perform as well. At home I tried it underneath non wall mounted and it worked ok, it sounded a bit thin. But with calibration you can get it to blend in perfectly no matter what. On wall it does have a fuller more natural sound. Check out the pic's

I was thinking about selling mine, to reduce some debt, but figured I'd never find another pair for the price I paid.
And forget about finding anything comparable in this range for SQ. Maybe the new new LSIM's, but eh, I'm too lazy to pack these up.

If I had to pick one song that makes these speakers REALLY shine, it would be 'Ri Na Cruinne' off of Clannad's Anam album. You can listen to the song at Amazon.
It was this song that re-sparked an interest in audio, after a year.

It depends on the level of Pioneer or Elite you are looking at. It does Phase and level.
Denon does not compare to Pioneer very well IMO. I think Dollar for Dollar Pioneer wins hands down in every single area. Sound quality and dynamic range is where pioneer is superior to Denon. Denon does however offer a nice balance of features which has been their strong point for Decades.

With the new Pioneer and Elite receivers , they really lead the pack with Airplay , streaming and control. Sound quality is as good as it gets with a receiver. Nothing out there in it's price class is better IMO.

Thanks Phil once I have matching center and rears I will get into some serious calibration but as they all sit now it sounds great to my old aging ears...hope all is well in the Garden State...........

Start around 12 o'clock with the sub level. It's about the right spot in most rooms. Some load at that level so I back it off a tad. Both speakers can be at different levels depending on placement and room boundaries. Currently my left is at 12 o'clock and the right is about 12:30 at I have no side wall for about 12 feet. The left is about 4 feet from the side wall. I'm also about 26 inches to the front of the speaker from the back wall. I can go closer with no Loading problems. They don't load as much as typical subs or speakers. I chalk it up to the cabinet design being round at the back. The Granite bottom really helps get a good load in the room.
