Been awhile since i actually checked in here, thanks to cody for contacting me, i will echo travis, never dreamed of something like this when i first checked in here to get advice on buying some used polks off cl.

Unboxed and ready to play! I'll most likely run them this afternoon and tonight with MOG streaming, and all day tomorrow to get some hours through them. Tomorrow night I'll spin some discs through them...

I'd call Polk or those dealers to see where you may get your ears on a pair. I've got mine on a pair right now!

The LSiC is meant to be mounted to the wall. It helps reinforce the bass response from the powerports in the back. Many of the guys here say it sounds its best when mounted on the wall as opposed to being on top an entertainment center.

Not recommended with the LSiC, or not recommended with some other center channel speaker? The way the ports are configured on the rear of the LSiC eliminates worry about contact with the rear wall.

After hearing the 707's at CES last year I've been itching to hear more...

Are either of the speakers making their way further inland? If so I'd love to demo them and put on a show for any interested parties in the Salt Lake City area!

They make the LSiM 703's which are bookshelf and can be used as surrounds......

Here is how the comparison breaks down new to old:

LSiC replaced by LSiM 704c and LSiM 706c
LSi F/X's were replaced by the LSiM 702 F/X
LSi 7 and LSi 9 were replaced by the LSiM 703
LSi 15 was replaced by the LSiM 705
LSi 25 was replaced by the LSiM 707

The 702 isn't really a bipole nor a dipole. I'd consider it to be a direct speaker... it's just that the sonic engine is angled relative to the mid woofer. I'd speculate that it was cost-prohibitive to put an entire sonic engine on both sides.. but that would've been sweeeet!

No, you can put it on either side or back- the manual has the recommended orientation, but with other surrounds of a similar design, I've found that it just comes down to personal taste and the specific room.

It's not a bipole; it's direct.

For 5.1, it'll be dependent on the room, which is true of any speaker, bipole, dipole, or otherwise. For 7.1 I'd run (1) pair as sides and (1) pair as rears.

To expand on this- you can achieve something like direct, bipole and dipole based on the placement. Tweeters forward, on side walls, behind listening position will give you a direct sound; but any configuration where you get the tweeters both bouncing off the walls and with a direct path will give something akin to a bipole/dipole sound. The precise phasing will depend on the spacing to the wall and the to the listening position and the dominant frequencies.

How I set up my surround system when I was free to put the speakers where I wanted was to get two friends to hold them at the appropriate height, over their heads (so they weren't blocking the sound too much). Put on your favorite scene with good surround (Beach scene in saving private ryan, plenty of stuff in LOTR, etc), and just try out as many configurations as possible. When it "pops" for you, put them there (and hope it's not the middle of a doorway).
