    Default SACD playback

I was playing around with my Yamaha S1800 and just discovered it has an option for frequency cutoff for SACD playback. The default setting is 100kHz. It sounds good, but 100kHz seems a bit high to me. I have options for 60, 80, 100 or 120 with this setting. Can someone advise on what would be optimal given these choices? I'm thinking 60 or 80 for 2ch SACD playback. Thoughts please.

Humans with excellent hearing can only hear up to 20kHz. ;) Regardless, I'd just leave it alone.

Interesting, since I didn't even know I had this option, Mike. I think it's only effective in a multi-channel configuration anyway. I have my player set up for 2ch playback. Meaning that it has multi-channel RCA outputs and a pair of RCAs for 'Mixed' 2ch only. I playback my SACDs from the stereo layer only, regardless if it's a mc hybrid or not. Playing around with it, I'm not hearing any differences, so I'm thinking it's for sub management.

Yes, it is for bass management when using the multichannel analog outs.

14KHz for my left ear and a bit lower on my right ear now. I can hear 17KHz two years ago.
Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.
