RTi A7 without Amplifier?

Hello all you wonderfull Polkies

I wish to replace my T90e (m60's) with some RTi A7's however I don't have the budget yet to upgrade to a new reciever and Amp (because I have put aside money for the LG LW9800) Can I still run the RTi A7's decently from a Pio VSX-1020?

I probably won't be able to pick up a new amp & AVR until after X-Mas

You should be fine if you don't crank it to 11, so if you hear distortion back of immediately. While IMO that AVR will not drive them with authority it will drive them well.

I'll be runnin' A9's without an amp (just for a little while anyway) with a Denon 4308...we'll see how that goes...setting it up now! I hear the 7's and 9's are very power hungry...need good clean quality power to make um sing!!

I try to keep from blasting anything because my room is small with my current setup i rarely have to turn it up at all for it to be loud. if your familar with pio volume I barely go below 40

The Pioneer VSX-1020 make 114 watts in 2 channel mode and 47 watts in 5 channel mode.

While this is not optimum, in 2 channel mode, you should have no problems. Just like like MADGSF said, I would be careful in 5 channel mode not to exceed -10 dB on the master volume.

You said that you would be looking to buy a new AVR and Amp. I would only buy an amp with at least 125 watt @ 8 ohms (all channels driven).

2 channel amp would be fine since to didn't say anything about a center channel or rear channels.

That Denon AVR-4308CI is really nice and make some serious power for a AVR.

In 5 channel, it make 144 watts all channels driven.

I know that will sound good because it is similar to what I run my RTi A9's front and RTi A7's rears with. I have 135 watts in 5 channel fro a Pioneer Elite SC-35.

I'm sure you will get great results.
