You're spot-on right Russ. I usually drink tea, water, ginger ale or pure grain alcohol as a rule.

I was a big Cokaholic back in 2005 and was pre-diabetic and at the heaviest weight ever. Stopped cold turkey when my blood sugar was worse than my diabetic cousin. Switched to Diet Coke but turned into a 3-6 can a day addict but stopped recently because I was having to run to the bathroom all the time, including in the middle of the night. Now, I have 1/2 a can or 1 now and then, especially at certain restaurants where the tea tastes like arse and the water came from the dishwasher.

    Good luck with your challenge.

I really like Loseit (thx Bobman!). It got me down to 139 when I stopped using it and switched to The Primal Blueprint. I'm now 135 and no longer keeping track of calories.

Just had an ICE cold Coke. It was delish. Like meeting an old friend. The bubbles.

Yeah I think once you get the hang of knowing what you're eating, you don't need to be as diligent about "tracking" everything. The first few months were really eye-opening for me though. You kind of have a ballpark of everything you eat, but when you list it all out.... yeah. But a few months later when you kind of get it all figured out it just becomes habit.

Thanks for the Lose It! link bobman.

I'm on board with you Skip. No sodas for me during August. I'll still drink a little Forty Creek with some cola mixed in though

Hey Skip, since you have quit, do you feel like you are less thirsty all the time? When I drank soda, I always felt like the soda never satisified my thirst.

A proper ice ice ice cold root beer or birch beer sounds good right now. That cold bottle dripping with condensation. The almost harsh carbonation breaking through that film of yuk in your mouth. What a lift for the soul.

9:45am AZ time, very fitfull sleep last night, the all night thunder and lightning storm didn't help either, but we love the rain out this way

I have a nasty headache, I don't usually suffer from those, I guess it's the sugar and mild caffeine withdrawals...I don't like coffee and I don't smoke ciggies anymore, maybe getting baked will help  or sloshed, I do like my bourbon and no work today or tomorrow , Iread in the posts that this headache thing might happen, but I didn't think it'd be this bad. Does A&W root beer even have caffeine? I still weigh 165.
    Huh? Wot?? Dig it

All I've been drinking since Monday. I'm slightly irritable (says my wife) and tired all day long. I'm not having any headaches or anything of that sort, I just didn't realize how much that caffeine woke me up.

I did switch to caffeine free a few months ago, due to sleep issues. Hasn't seemed to help any, or have any negative effects either. Last summer I didn't drink pop at all, I had switched to fruit juice. I had been losing a lot of weight after quitting smoking, having neck surgery, and walking 3 miles or more a day. I thought juice would be another healthy choice. Then I realized how many calories were in it when my weight started to go back up, and went back to Coke or Vanilla Coke.

Never have liked just plain water.

Every now and then I get myself a Mt Dew, just because its fun, and cannot believe how much work I get done, easily 5 times more than normal. It only takes a few sips, anything more than that and I get hooked on it. Other soda just isn't the same.

So you think it's bad that American companies like Coke or Pepsi are profitable? I'd love to hear the explanation.

Along with the B vits get some potassium too.

On that note, I am totally craving an Abita root beer. I think I will have one. So cold and crisp and refreshing.

After a week I crave none anymore. I went to Chicken Express last night after having had nothing but water and a few glasses of apple juice through the week. Their tenders, biscuits, gravy, and sweet tea hold a special place in my heart. I couldn't finish the meal and struggled with the sweet tea. The meal was way too heavy and the tea was way too sweet.

I've lost 2-3 lbs. since I started, regardless of the heavy calorie intake I had to cope w/ no sodas/caffeine. Thursday was a B**** of the highest order...
