Refinishing RTA 12's

I am looking at refinishing a pair of RTA 12's I just picked up. They are in good shape but I really like real wood, and am looking at putting on a wood veneer, and building a base for them (like the 12B's and C's have).

Is there any detriment to the sound quality of the speakers if I put a real wood veneer on them?

A veneer would be fine and I believe a couple guys have done stuff in the DIY area here.

The bases are specific for the speakers so you really need to match what it should have or you could be messing with fire.

if all you're doing is stripping off the vinyl covering and applying wood veneer.

Don't know you're experience with this, but several folks around here have done it and posted step by step pics. That kind of thing always helps me.
