Default 7.1 to 2 ch stereo

I have a HK 254 and when I switch from 7.1 to 2 ch stereo the volume actually decreases , always taught it would increase . Shouldn't it increase or have I got something setup wrong. Thanks

I have the AVR354, and it depends on several factors. Did you run the Audyssey on your system? Audyssey could be applying EQ and Level adjustments, and you are only running 2 channels instead of 7... Also, depending on the 2 channel setting, you could be cutting your sub out of the mix too...
