The Home Theater Sickness

My wife hates this sickness. You know the one that hit's all of us that are into home theater, audio, **** just about anything tech.

Have any of you guys ever spent whole days screwing around with your setup because last week you loved it and this week your not happy with something, so you move things around re-tweak and still there's something missing. Even though your wife, kids, friends and family think your **** is the bomb and wish they had it, but to you, you still think there's more to do or something to replace or upgrade. I'm telling you it's a sickness.

One question what do you keep your AV reciver's cross over set to, 40,60,80,100,120? I leave mine set at 80 but for no reason. Do you really hear a difference from 40 to 120?

I set mine to off with my mains on large, sub crossed at 65hz. The subwoofer is VERY hard to localize at this point.

Yes, we all go through that. Some days I jam, some days I slam, somedays i turn it off....lol

I agree with you Redhouse, its just not right. You know its fine, but for whatever dumb reason, you just have to screw around with it. I have gotten many rolled eyes and shaken heads sent in my direction for having to mess around with my setup.

Another guilty culprit here.

Once I am done with my budget 2.1 channel a/v rig...... I will most likely focus on the computer rig. Which is inheriently already complete.... (ditched the 38's and replaced them with the little 15's). Argg! a sickness!

The perfect example would be last night - Where I seriously debated throwing out nearly all I owned (except the LSi's and the Kimbers) and go Creek Audio and Music Hall.

For HT, leave the xo at 80. Any lower will (in the vast majority of AVRs) lop off the top of the LFE channel and redirect it into a black hole, never to be heard from again.

This is because the LFE channel is almost always summed with the low passed bass from the surround channels in the bass management circuit. Very few AVRs have the capability of setting the xo for the LFE channel separate and independent from the xo for the surround channels.

Unless I'm missing something, setting your mains to large would bypass the crossover settings right? The only thing you'd be sending to your sub would be from the center and surrounds if they were set to small. Might be why your sub is hard to localize, it's not getting much signal.

I know the feeling too, while my ht setup is basic (decent onkyo ht in a box) my car is my toy so about once a week (sometimes more often) i just start playing with the settings on my Cd player to see if i can get a little more from it ;D
