Question Turntable issue with some vinyl??

I have been trying to trouble shoot this all afternoon. The problem is when I play The Cars or Rod Stewart both on new Mofi Vinyl, as I turn up the volume the speakers want to vibrate violently. it does not do this on any other vinyl I have played.

Cables are good, the table is level, I put some isolation pads under the table and it still does it. I'm not getting it??

Why just these two pieces of vinyl??

    Help!!!

I had a similar problem with some LP's and after moving the TT farther away from the speakers, and actually away from everything the problem went away. I added better isolation as well.
I'm not a vinyl expert so i don't know why it did this on some but not others.

I am wondering if I just mount it to the wall it would go away. If not I could just move the table and phono pre farther away but then I would need some longer interconects for the phono pre..

The drivers vibrating, pulsing? You probably need a subsonic filter.

Give you an idea, Larry. Some graphic EQs have a Subsonic Filter built in for dealing with those low frequencies.

Subsonic filters have been on some amps and receivers since the 50's. All turntables (well almost all) produce subsonic rumble that can be seen on speakers sometimes when even no music is playing just the record groove lead in or lead out or between songs. Some speakers vibrate violently if subsonic rumble is high enough, and yet create little or no volume. Could be on the vinyl the TT or both. The subsonic filter is called several names depending on the manufacturer. On my Eico ST-70 it's simply called lo filter but it cuts all frequencies below 100 Hz which to me is still very audible. My Pro-ject Tube Box II has a low filter that cuts below 12 Hz and the same on my ADC Soundshaper III EQ. I also have a pair of very hard to find Nakamichi in line filters that just plug in the rca's from the table to the amp or pre. The biggest problem with subsonic rumble is that it eats up valuable amplifier power and returns nothing or very little audible musical value. Unless your table and vinyl is completely without rumble a subsonic filter will tighten up the bass and save power for more dynamic passages. Not to mention less strain on speaker cones or panels.

Interesting post, Kelvin and this thread has me curious now. I found these FMODs on PA and wondering if something like this can be used and also which would be recommended?

I had the same issue with mine--the drivers would kinda "oscilate" at certain volumes,,and not on all lp's-- I think I fixed it by isolating the tt and moving the phono pre away,IIRC--let us know how it turns out.
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

+1 to that. A turntable is a mechanical pickup system. The sensitivity of a turntable to vibration depends upon the room acoustics, the turntables location in the room, and how it is supported. Isolation is great for floor/rack vibrations but the table is still susceptible to airborne vibes.

My South wall setup has my speakers symmetrical to room corners. With the table/gear between the speakers, SPL levels above 80-85dB would result in awful feedback from the turntable. And that was with a large amount of acoustic treatments (stacked GIK Tri-Traps in corners and three GIK 244 traps behind the gear/speakers). My tube gear required tube dampers. Moving the turntable/gear to the West wall (speakers remain on South wall) solved that problem. No TT feedback and no tube dampers required.

My West wall setup has the right speaker open to the main level. With the turntable/tube gear positioned between the speakers on the West wall, it is not affected at any volume level.

I have an unemployed Nakamichi outboard subsonic/rumble filter. Model SF-100 I believe.

Larry did you ever make a move on a filter? I am in the same boat here.i moved mine and it helped quite a bit but would still buy a filter if i know it will fix the problem.
