    Default Computer Mics

    Hello All!

I spend allot of time chatting on skype now that my girl friend got stationed out of the states. One of the audio problems I have is I have a super cheap head set that is once again about to die off.

I got the chance to check out some grado labs i80 at a new audio store in Manhattan KS and they were pretty amazing. It was my first time being around ?real? headphones.

So what I?m thinking is I?ll pick up those i80s cause there pretty great, and get a mic for my computer. I?m not sure what kind of mic solutions are good ones. I?d like to keep it cheap since the i80s are pretty price compared to another even higher end headset.

Dose anyone run this set up? Thanks.

I usually use headset / mic combinations. However, I also also carry better headphones with me on the road for music. So, I also use headphones and separate microphones. Usually my applications are teamspeak and ventrillo and occasional Skype

I can probably help a bit but it will depend on what your using (laptop vs desktop).

That being said. Your using Skype for chatting with the gal friend. I assume this means web cam. Most web cams have built in mics. If this is a built in web cam like they have on laptops, your laptop probably has a built in condenser mic.

    Those are the cheapest methods.

For the laptop. I usually carry one of these around with me:

(You might want to get a couple, some work better than others)

For the desktop that doesn't have a web cam on it I have tried:
    Blue Mic
    -- Snowflake

They sound great as would be expected from the price.

The other option since you seem to be concerned with the cost would be to get something similar to this:

I wouldn't say one brand is better than another. I do have this one which is a Logitech, but they are all pretty generic. They can generally be found for $10 to $15 everywhere (Target, Wallyworld, bestbuy, any office supply store, Walgreens might even carry one)

    Hope that helps a bit,
    Scott

Without music to decorate it, time is just a bunch of boring production deadlines or dates by which bills must be paid. ..... Frank Zappa

I have an older HP lap top I use, but the built in mic is so bad she can't hear me. So I was using the headset I use to play starcraft on the desktop and that worked really well till about a week ago, I think the wiring is just burning out.

If those $2 ones work, that seems like a great quick fix.
