    Default Yamaha RX-V463 Question - SETUP W/Monitor 70s

    Hi guys,

I am about to get my new Monitor 70s and a CS2 center. This receiver has 105w per channel. I'm also using a PSW10 sub. I know the Monitors like a lot of power but I cant afford to get a new receiver and a new sub. I have been told to keep the speaker size setting to "small". What about crossover? Anything else I am missing?

Also is it possible to bi amp?

    Thanks!

Great article. http://www.ecoustics.com/electronics...es/128214.html. I tried different combo settings but kept coming back to what the article referenced for fantastic results with my LSi setup.

You'll be fine with the receiver you have and for what it's worth, the M70's do not need tons of power. Don't bi-amp from a receiver, it's a waste of time and cables. Visit our subwoofer section, plenty of threads on setting up the psw 10.

Definitely set them to Small. I have a Yamaha 563 and that thing makes all my speakers sound like crud when they are set to large, even in stereo mode. IIRC I was using a 70 hz crossover point and liked the results. The lower the crossover point got after that, the sloppier the sound got.

I find this very strage, but yamaha claims that this receiver puts out the adverstised rms power with all channels driven... IF this is indeed the case, then bi-amping could be worth while. The improvement will be marginal, but you should see one non-the less. M70s don't NEED lots of power at low to moderate volumes, but boy do they LIKE IT!

As for settings, you will have to play around and see. The more power you feed to this speaker, the more clarity/quality you will get at lower frequencies and higher volumes. So again, if bi-amping actually helps, you may be able to go lower to 50-60hz and still enjoy the overall sound.

Try different frequency settings, and see how well the speaker handles it at the volumes that you listen to. Different hz settings will all sound different, especially as you turn up the volume, so let your ears tell you where the speaker is comfortable

I would get a better sub before you get another receiver. The sub seems to be your weak point at the moment. Your receiver should run the 70's at moderate volume levels. Good luck.
