    Default Neighbors.

I feel you have a more personalized experience of a decent stereo when you have cool neighbors.

I vote no neighbors. My neighbors are 150+ yards away from my home. I wouldn't want it any other way.

PS I am a drummer and like to play my music an movies loud. :)

I wish I had no neighbors. Heck, one of them came into my card and cut my tree down because the branches were touching their garage! I no longer restrain my music listening levels. And that is saying something when I have a sub driven with 3600 watts!!!

We still live in the city, if you can call it that, but we plan to move onto nothing less than 5 acres within a couple years...

I like neighbors "by invitation only" and that's why we have lived in the middle of 9 acres for more than 2 decades.

I have neighbors, but thankfully they are much louder than I am. I have a full Pearl drum set, plus more drums, my indoor system opens up from three sets of french doors onto my backyard with four outdoor speakers. I can wake up the dead. Pretty much I'm very respectful and quiet at least outside. I play my music and movies really loud whenever I want, drums to 10pm unless I throw on a towel. But either way no one can really say anything when one neighbor has two screaming birds that reeeeeeealllly scream early, loud and often. Their kids taught the birds to scream "shut up" at each other. The other neighbors are about 15 people who all talk at the top of their lungs. I know their whole life story. Another set of neighbors who fight all the time screaming, and they have a loud bird but not as bad. Both of those neighbors have about 10 barking dogs all the time. My other two neighbors never make a peep, but they live in the house like a compound and can't hear anything. I took a high pitch anti dog barking device and set it up near the fence, and it works for the most part when I want quiet, otherwise I let em' bark it up.

But none of it matters to me, because it's a free license to go nuts music wise when I want to, and I do it at least weekly.

I only have a measley 3.5 acres, but, I can crank it to 11 and no one complains.
Hell, I could have Marshal stacks in here, and on one would care

I vote for NO neighbors however, I own a semi-detached and when the new neighbors moved in few years ago I told them to let me know if there ever were any sound issues (be audio or HT) and from time to time I check with my neighbor still and no complaints. I would much prefer with no neighbors as when I feel like cranking up late I always worry a little and limit my self a bit.

I believe communication is the key (I got in trouble with loud music with my first neighbor, 20 years ago and I learned my lesson as I like to keep peace with them).

Voting for cool neighbors here, my house sits pretty far back on a big lot, I'm very close to the folks behind me and on both sides, never had a complaint, had a few nice complements on the great tunes last night when taking out the garbage, getting the mail or just walking by. Nice folks 'round here, I'm happy
    Huh? Wot?? Dig it

Where can I get me some??

    I have great neighbors...

One is hardly home and the others are from NYC and could care less about noise...

Everybody is cool as hell and mind their own business, yet we still swap cigars, beer and tools.

    Amen, brotha!

I think it was Benjamin Franklin who said something like, "good fences make for good neighbors", but I also thing "great distances make for great neighbors

We have 17 acres down the road, ravined in back and surrounded by 15-20 acre parcels that we will be building on someday soon (1,206' setback from the road and even farther from the next adjacent structure).

I've sold speakers to friends who later were asked by the police to turn the volume down.

Another testament to where I live. I know I played them very close......to their volumes before they bought them.

In a neighborhood of 1 acre lots with lots of trees. No one for 150 yards on one side.

I play a custom set of drums I built as late as 1130 pm with never a complaint. I play the stereo as loud as I want up until 1:00 am. It's all good!

We recently moved from the country with a small parcel in the middle of 600 acres shared sparsely by 4 homes.

I was a little leery so I started out low volumes but gradually increased until I had a neighbor that I hadn't met drive by with a thumbs up and a smile. Since then I have had my 88 year old (closest neighbor) almost fall asleep with a big smile on his face in the sweet spot saying he hasn't heard such detail in 40 years. Granted I almost couldn't stay in the room lol but he was stoked to be able to hear music he hadn't for quite some time.

If I have to have close neighbors I'll take the ones I have anytime.

On the living room side of the house I have my drive way plus an extra half lot so there is some distance between myself and the neighbor. When he gets his HT subs really rocking I can hear the thump. Luckily this doesn't happen often and so far it's never late at night. Not sure if he can hear my system or not, don't really care since he rocks out too. I do try to only listen loud when the doors and windows are shut, out of courtesy.
