Polk 7C questions

I just picked up a pair of Polk 7 C's this morning, with the Silver dome tweeter. I'm pretty excited as I have owned a pair of Monitor 5Jr+ Series 2 & a pair of Monitor 10's W/Peerless tweets in the past.

So my questions are:

Would I be better served hooking them up to my Sansui AU-717 or my Luxman R-1040?.
I've read a lot about replacing the tweets with the RD0194? is this necessary or just a preference?
Am I correct in that the 7C was only produced in 1979?

Seems to me that you have enough experience to answer most of your questions above. You've heard speakers with the Peerless and now you'll hear the SLs? You should make the call. I'd certainly listen to the 7s with the silver domes for a while. I know I don't like them much on my SDAs (got to do something about that!).

Also, isn't the Luxman a receiver and the Sansui an integrated amp? Most would suggest the integrated over the receiver there. But, here again, you've heard both so you're in a better position to decide.

If it were me, I'd run the Sansui and the Luxman and do some critical listening then make the call. Both are nice vintage pieces!

Enjoy, I was really surprised by what a set of Monitor 10As could do recently, even though I've had 5As for a while! And the 7s are rumored to be the "King of the Hill"!

Thanks CNH, I just got the Luxman the same day as the speakers and it's at the shop being looked at to make sure it's running correctly.

If there are in fact "C" they were not made in 1979, probably closer to 1986, 1987 and they aren't all that rare.

Nice speakers, enjoy, and yes the RD0 tweeter is worth every penny as the Sl2000 (silver coil) tweeters can sound harsh, strident, fatiguing and forward.

I'm kinda curious now as this page (http://www.polksda.com/list.shtml) says 7C's were manufactured in 1979. Why the discrepancy in the date?

Not all the data on the POLKSDA site is completely accurate. 7C's were manufactured after 1979. Like H9 said probably 85 or so.

Polk made each series separate. 7 were made then upgraded to 7B and so on and so forth. Polk didn't continue building monitor 7B's once they started producing 7C's. So the build dates on that site are kinda screwed up and should be used as a reference not law.
