    Default MW's on Monitor 2's w/ white build-up

I'm over at my wife's grandparents place right now and her grandfather is the original owners of some pristine Monitor 2's, with the exception of the midwoofers. All around each dust cap on the MW's, there is a white build-up that I've never seen before on a speaker. It doesn't seem to affect their SQ any. They do live in Houston, so perhaps this might have something to do with the high humidity?

Don't worry about it. Happens all the time. Many theories about what it is, don't know if it has ever been nailed down. I think some people use a black magic marker to touch up their dust caps; it it bothers you enough.

BTW, do you mean "Series 2" Monitor? The ones with the SL-2500 tweeter?

Nope. Monitor 2's were a small bookie with a 5.25" midwoofer and ported enclosure. They are a semi-rare speaker compared to other Monitors in the series. I don't even think the Polk website lists them as a vintage model. There was also a Monitor 4 that was similar to the 2, except it used the 6.5" midwoofer.

Windex and a soft cloth worked pretty good for me (except on the really white stuff). Since it seems like some sort of oxidation, I was thinking about trying some white vinegar (acid) and a soft cloth. Ya never know.

Post some pics of the Monitor 2's. I have been cataloging the vintage Polks and I don't think I have this one. Specs would be great too if you have them.

Meh, now I feel like a fool. They are actually Monitor 4 series 2. I swear they said Monitor 2's and I read somewhere about them having 5" midranges. I haven't look any more into them since I did about 2-3 years ago. That's what I get for not looking closer I guess. Today was the first day I really got a good look at them.

I can't find any of that information anymore so I have no idea where I saw it to begin with. Oh well. Maybe it was all a dream...
