That's a hell of a HT for very little. You can't do wrong at those prices unless you have a humongous room. Get a nice AVR, maybe an Elite-ICE, sit back and enjoy the film--whatever it is!

I'm very happy with my Monitor 70 based HT. And have 'absolutely' no plans to upgrade it. The law of diminishing returns sets in much 'faster' when it comes to HT than it does in more critical listening. And these have to be one of Polk's best value HT systems, period.

I saw this deal on the email newsletter that Newegg sends out. I was so surprised to see such an amazing deal on the M70's, that I decided to order four of them to replace the anchor to my HT setup.

I've currently got a pair of M70 series I speakers for my front R&L, and a set of M60 series I for the rear. My center is a CS2 series II, so it's newer. I've been wanting to purchase a pair of the series II M70's to replace the front and move the old ones to the back, so that I have all 6.5" drivers. Now I can just sell the entire series I set that I have. I can probably get half of what I just spent, while giving someone else a bargain in return.

My usage pattern is about 70/20/10 for gaming, home theater, and music. Since I mainly use my HT for gaming, it's very important that I have a matching set of speakers for the entire room. Right now, with a mix of 5.25" and 6.5" drivers, the rear sound stage sounds noticeably different from the front stage. The audio does not always blend in seamlessly. Some games more than others can really take me out of the moment, and take away the immersion that I strive to maintain.

Also, the M70 series II speakers look much nicer than series I when the grill covers are taken off.

    No LSiM? bummer.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

A friend is looking at the m70s but has a 9 month old and is worried about stability. Any thoughts?

I'm sure there are ways to be preventative, but yes - they are pretty tippy. Mainly because they are 3 feet tall and 8 inches wide (not exact measurements, but you get the idea) One might be able to tie them to the nearest thing? Kind of how you can anchor bookshelves to the wall?

Not a good idea, IMO. Babies are always testing limits of such things and can result in a broken speaker, or worse, a trip to the hospital for junior. Now if your friend was considering Klipsch Heresys, then he'd be fine. I don't think a Pontiac station wagon could knock those over.
